Description

Freyju Möndlur are sugar-coated liquorice caramels: a bright pink shell around a caramel centre flavoured with liquorice root. There is no salmiak in them, and Freyja's sheet gives 0.30 g salt per 100 g, so the liquorice is gentle. Möndlur means "almonds"; the name is about the shape, and there are no almonds in the recipe.

Made by Freyja in Kópavogur, Iceland's oldest working sweet maker, founded in Reykjavík in 1918. 125 g bag.

Does it contain nuts or gluten?

Freyja lists no nuts and no wheat in the ingredients, but says the caramels may contain traces of both. They do contain milk. If anyone you are buying for has a nut or wheat allergy, choose something else.

Is it vegetarian?

No. The pink colour is carmine, which is made from insects, and the shine comes from beeswax and shellac.

Will it melt on the way?

There is no chocolate in it, but caramel can soften in a hot van. We do not refund softened sweets unless you add Shipping protection in the cart (terms of service, sections 9 and 10). A cool, dry cupboard firms them up again.

Will I pay duties or customs on delivery?

Not in the US or Canada — duties and taxes are settled at checkout, so nothing is owed at the door. For other destinations, any local import charges are collected by the courier on delivery.
