Fletir — your questions, answered

Why is one colour different from the pattern?
Plötulopi forest (0014) is no longer made. This kit has Plötulopi forest green (0484) in its place — colour D. It is only ever held together with the dark grey Einband (G, 9103), for the last two rounds of the yoke and the 5 cm neckband. In the photos that blend reads as dark grey with only a faint green tint. Forest green is a clear, cool dark green, so held with the dark grey it gives a dark grey-green that will look clearly greener than the neckband in the photos (our estimate). All the other colours are the ones in the pattern. You can choose another shade in the colour picker.
Which size should I knit?
Four sizes — S, M, L and XL — with a chest of 93, 100, 107 and 113 cm, 40 to 46 cm from hem to underarm, and sleeves of 44 to 47 cm to the underarm. The pattern gives no total length; the yoke adds about 18 to 21 cm above the underarm, plus the 5 cm neckband (our calculation).
Will I have yarn left over?
The kit holds the amount for L and XL: 7 plates of Plötulopi — 2 each of winter blue heather, jasper red heather and dark amber heather, and 1 of forest green — and 8 balls of Einband — 3 of denim heather, 4 of brick and 1 of dark grey heather. S and M use 4 plates (one of each colour) and 6 balls (2 denim heather, 3 brick, 1 dark grey heather). Forest green and dark grey are used only for two rounds and the neckband, so most of both will be left over (our estimate). The pattern calls them simply winter blue, jasper red, dark amber, forest, denim, brick and dark grey.
How are the two yarns used?
Every stitch is knitted with two strands at once — one of Plötulopi, the unspun lopi that comes in round plates, and one of Einband, a fine yarn — held together as if they were one. Each colour pairs one of each: blue is winter blue heather + denim heather, red is jasper red heather + brick, rust-amber is dark amber heather + brick, and the neckband is forest green + dark grey heather. Two rounds of dark amber heather + denim heather make a soft step between the blue and the rust-amber on the body.
Is the slit in the rib a mistake?
No, it is part of the design — the pattern calls them “open ribbings”. The hem and cuff ribs are knitted back and forth and only joined into a round when the stocking stitch begins, so each keeps a small open slit: on the body at the left side, where the round begins, and on each sleeve at the underarm, where the round begins.
Is anything unclear in the pattern?
Not much — every stitch count adds up (our calculation). The 8 mm circular is given as “60–80 cm”; the kit with needles has the 80 cm, which holds the 168 to 192 stitches at the start of the yoke. The neckband rib is the hem rib knitted in the round: round 1 knit 1, purl 1; round 2 knit. And the pattern has no materials list for notions: you also need stitch holders (or scrap yarn) for the underarm stitches and a tapestry needle for grafting.
What does the kit with needles include?
8 mm (US 11) circular needles in 40 and 80 cm; 6.5 mm (US 10½) circular needles in 40 and 80 cm; 8 mm double-pointed needles — ADDI, as named in the pattern. The pattern gives the longer 8 mm circular as 60–80 cm; the kit has 80 cm.
