Varma Wool Mittens - Grey and blue

The traditional Icelandic pattern in the Fanney hat was designed by the wife of our master knitter's wife and is therefore named after her.
The hat is made of soft merino wool, but the pattern itself is made of Icelandic wool.

Dark wool mittens with light grey and blue classical pattern made from Icelandic wool and is a traditional Icelandic knitwear. Warm and cozy for cold climate weather.

Our own thoughts: These mittens are light and very breathable. Should provide good cover against cold weather and light winds. Not waterproof but will stay relatively warm even when wet. Stretches easily from S to L.
Washing instructions: Wash on wool programme at 30°C. Do not tumble dry.

Who was Fanney?

The wife of Varma's master knitter. She drew the zigzag, Varma named it after her, and the same pattern is now knitted on a hat, a headband and these mittens.

Will they fit me?

They come in one size for men and women. The knit is elastic and the ribbed cuff opens and closes with the hand, so the same pair stretches from a smaller hand to a larger one; they are not cut for a child.

How do they feel?

Light and smooth. The body is a fine, soft wool knit rather than a thick one, so the hand still closes round a dog lead or a steering wheel, and the Icelandic wool in the pattern gives the back of the hand a little more body.

Are they warm enough for a proper winter?

For cold, dry days and wind, yes: the fine knit breathes, and wool keeps its warmth even when it gets damp. For hours in wet snow, a thicker lined mitten does better, and these go on under it or come out when the sky clears.
