Q: Is Icelandic wool itchy?

It has a rustic feel — a lopapeysa is made to be worn over a shirt or light layer, not on bare skin. The wool softens noticeably with wear, and that same robust fibre is what makes it windproof and long-lived.

Q: How do I care for a lopapeysa?

Mostly, you don't wash it — airing it out is usually enough, as Icelandic wool is naturally self-cleaning. When it truly needs washing: hand wash in cool water with wool soap, press the water out gently and dry flat.

Q: Do US orders pay customs on delivery?

Ernir has one of our classic Icelandic patterns. The green heather color has been discontinued but we made sure to buy up the whole production of the last lot. So we have enough to make about 10 of these sweaters.

This is an authentic Icelandic Lopapeysa which is now a protected product name by the Icelandic food and vetinary authority. To qualify as such it must be made from wool sheered from Icelandic sheep. The wool shall be new, not recycled. The sweater must be knit from Icelandic lopi and it shall be hand knitted in Iceland.
