Description

Elina Grande is Tove Richter’s redesign of her classic Elina, knitted in chunky Álafosslopi. It is worked in the round from the top down, starting at the neckline, so you can try it on as you go. Oatmeal heather with the yoke in acorn and chocolate heather. Tove Richter is a Norwegian designer who knits almost exclusively with Icelandic wool.

Which size should I knit?

There are seven sizes, XS to 3XL, with a chest of 83, 92, 97, 106, 111, 120 and 129 cm (32¾ to 50¾″) all round. The sleeves are 46 to 50 cm to the underarm. Compare with a sweater that fits you the way you like.

Short or long — what are the choices?

Two choices. The neckline can be short, just a round of knit and a round of K1 P1, or long, with 20 cm of K2 P2 rib. The body can be short, 40 to 46 cm to the underarm, or long, 49 to 53 cm.

Is there enough yarn for the long neckline?

Not quite. The kit holds 9 balls of oatmeal, enough for the long body in 3XL, and 1 ball each of acorn and chocolate. The long neckline needs a second ball of the neckline colour, which you would need to add.

What is the colour dominance change?

The pattern marks a colour dominance change at row 39 of the chart. Tove knits the yoke with the main colour held on the left and the pattern colour on the right, then moves the pattern colour to the left for the body and sleeves.

Will I have yarn left over?

The kit covers the long body in 3XL. The short body uses 4 to 8 balls of oatmeal and the long body 5 to 9, depending on size, so smaller sizes have oatmeal to spare.

What does the kit with needles include?

6 mm (US 10) circular needles in 40, 60 and 80 cm, a 4.5 mm (US 7) circular needle in 80 cm, and 4.5 mm and 6 mm double-pointed needles — ADDI, the sizes the pattern names.
