Good to know

Bláregn Open — your questions, answered

Can I still buy the colours in the photos?
Yes. All four are still made by Ístex: Plötulopi white (0001) and light blues blue (2023), and Einband yellow (1765) and light denim (0008). Our shop calls 0008 light denim heather, so go by the colour numbers.
Which size should I knit?
Five sizes — S, M, L, XL and 2XL — with a chest of 93, 102, 112, 121 and 130 cm all the way round, and sleeves of 43 to 47 cm. It is a short cardigan: 27, 28, 29, 30 and 31 cm from the hem to the underarm. The body’s 137 (151, 165, 179, 193) stitches come to about 91 (101, 110, 119, 129) cm at the pattern’s 15 stitches to 10 cm — 1 to 2 cm under the printed chest; the front bands are picked up afterwards (our calculation).
How much yarn do I need?
Plötulopi in 100 g plates: white (A) 2 (3, 3, 3, 4) and light blues blue (B) 1. Einband in 50 g balls: yellow (C) 3 (3, 4, 4, 5) and light denim (D) 1 (1, 2, 2, 2).
How are the two yarns used?
One strand of Plötulopi and one of Einband are held together and knitted as one yarn: white with yellow for the cardigan, light blues blue with light denim for the flowers. Light denim Einband is also used on its own, for the cast-on edges and the inner half of every folded edge.
Do I have to cut my knitting?
Yes. The body and yoke are knitted in the round with a purled stitch at each side of the centre front. When you weave in the ends, pull the ones beside the purl stitches through to the right side; sew twice by machine through each chain of purl stitches and cut between the seams. Then the front bands are picked up along the cut edges.
How does it close?
With five snap fasteners (not included): the first at the neck, the last 3 cm above the purl ridge at the lower edge, and the others evenly between.
Is this the Bláregn pullover?
No. Bláregn, Lopi 43 no. 2, is a separate pattern — a longer pullover, which its own leaflet shows in purple. This PDF is the cardigan only.
Is anything unclear in the pattern?
Only small things. Twice it says “Einbandi”, the Icelandic form of Einband. The finishing says to fold the neckband and the facings of the body and sleeves; the front bands have the same purl row and light denim facing, so fold them the same way (our reading). The materials list leaves out stitch holders, the sewing machine and thread for the steek, and a tapestry needle.
Is everything in the photos part of the pattern?
The cardigan is. The long pale yellow skirt, the white socks, the black ankle boots and the bracelet are not.
How do I get the pattern?
The PDF is emailed to you right after purchase. Nothing is posted. It is in English and has 4 pages: the cover photo; a page with the sizes, materials, gauge, notes and all the instructions; a page with the yoke chart and its key; and Ístex’s back cover with a second photo.
