Why you'll love it

  • WisteriaSmall pale motifs in ash and lavender on purple round the yoke — Bláregn means wisteria.
  • Texture as well as colourIn both charts some of the pale ash-and-lavender stitches are purled; the purple ground is all knit stitches.
  • Long and slightly A-shaped56 to 60 cm from the hem to the underarm, and 10 to 11 cm wider round the hem than round the chest; worn as a short dress in the photos.
  • Seed-stitch edgesThe hem, the cuffs and the neckband are seed stitch instead of rib, with a round of ash and lavender at the cuffs and the neck.

Good to know

Bláregn — your questions, answered

Is it a cardigan?
No. Bláregn is a pullover, knitted in the round with no opening and no buttons. Lopi 43 also has a separate pattern, Bláregn – open (no. 10), a short cardigan with snap fasteners; it is not in this PDF.
Can I still buy the colours in the photos?
Yes. All four are still made by Ístex: Plötulopi amethyst (2026) and ash (1026), and Einband purple (9044) and lavender (1767). Our shop calls the Plötulopi 1026 light ash heather, so go by the colour numbers.
Which size should I knit?
Five sizes, S to 2XL, with a chest of 90, 100, 109, 118 and 128 cm and 101, 110, 120, 129 and 138 cm round the hem — both match the stitch counts at the pattern’s gauge (our check). It is long: 56 to 60 cm from the hem to the underarm, with sleeves of 43 to 47 cm. Compare with a sweater that fits well before you choose.
How much yarn do I need?
Plötulopi in 100 g plates: amethyst (A) 3 (3, 4, 4, 5) and ash (B) 1 in every size. Einband in 50 g balls: purple (C) 4 (4, 5, 5, 6) and lavender (D) 1 in every size.
How are the two yarns used?
One strand of Plötulopi and one of Einband are knitted together as one yarn throughout: amethyst with purple for the ground (A+C), ash with lavender for the pattern (B+D).
Is anything unclear in the pattern?
Only small things. The neckband is bound off straight after its round in ash and lavender, so we read it as bound off in that pair. The materials list leaves out stitch markers, stitch holders and a tapestry needle.
Is everything in the photos part of the pattern?
Yes — the sweater is the only garment you see in either photo.
How do I get the pattern?
The PDF is emailed to you right after purchase. Nothing is posted. It is in English and has 4 pages: the cover photo; a page with the sizes, materials, gauge, notes, all the instructions and a second photo; a page with the yoke chart, the sleeve chart and the colour key; and Ístex’s back cover.
