Why is it called Bernie?

After the patterned wool mittens Senator Bernie Sanders wore at the presidential inauguration in January 2021, the pair that went round the world in a day. Kidka knits its own brown version in Hvammstangi and gave it the name.

Which size should I choose?

There are three sizes. M suits most women's hands and smaller men's, L a larger man's hand, S a small hand. Both the knit and the fleece have some give, so a hand at the top of a size is fine.

Are they lined all the way through?

Yes. The fleece runs from the fingertips to the cuff, with Icelandic wool on the outside. The black edge you see at the wrist is the lining showing at the cuff.

How do they feel?

Smooth fleece against the skin and a slightly fuzzy wool outside. Two layers make them thicker than a plain knitted mitten, but the fleece is soft, so your hand still closes round a shovel handle or a coffee cup.

Can they go in the washing machine?

Yes, on a wool programme at no more than 30 °C with wool detergent, dried flat afterwards and never tumble dried. Most of the time an airing is all they need.
