Description

Tove Richter designed Arnar for her husband: he wanted a long sweater, not too many colours, and a masculine pattern. The result is a clean two-colour Léttlopi lopapeysa — here spring green with the yoke in ocean blue (this sample was knitted by Berit Borg). Tove Richter is a Norwegian designer who knits almost exclusively with Icelandic wool.

Which size should I knit?

There are eight sizes, XS to 4XL, with a chest of 84, 89, 98, 102, 107, 116, 124 and 131 cm (33 to 51½″) all round. The body measures 46 to 54 cm to the underarm, depending on size. Compare with a sweater that fits you the way you like.

Will I have yarn left over?

The kit holds the amount for 4XL: 11 balls of spring green and 3 of ocean blue. The pattern uses 7, 7, 8, 8, 9, 10, 10 and 11 balls of the main colour from XS to 4XL, and 2 balls of the yoke colour up to XL, 3 from 2XL.

What are the short rows for?

Once the body is long enough, and before the sleeves are joined, you knit six short rows back and forth across the back. They raise the back so the front of the neckline sits lower. The pattern lists German short rows among its techniques.

Can I change the length or the neck?

Yes. Body and sleeves are knitted to a measurement, and the pattern says the length can easily be fitted to what you prefer. The neckband can be 3 cm of K2 P2 rib for a short neckline or 8 cm for a high one.

What does the kit with needles include?

4.5 mm (US 7) circular needles in 40, 60 and 80 cm, a 3.5 mm (US 4) circular needle in 80 cm, and 3.5 mm (US 4) and 4.5 mm (US 7) double-pointed needles — ADDI, the sizes the pattern names. You will also want 4 stitch markers and a tapestry needle, which are not in the kit.
