Good to know

Alasuq Polar Cypress Green — your questions, answered

Which size should I knit?
Linka plans the sweater with about 10 cm of positive ease: measure round your chest, add 10 cm and choose the nearest size. The finished chest is 93, 101, 110, 120 and 130 cm (36½ to 51¼″) for S to XXL.
What is the difference between the women's and men's versions?
Only the length. The body is 41 to 45 cm to the underarm for women and 46 to 50 cm for men; the sleeves are 47 to 51 cm or 52 to 56 cm. The pattern gives one yarn amount for both.
Why does the pattern change needle sizes?
The colour bands are knitted on 7 mm needles and the plain parts on 6 mm, so the stranded knitting keeps the same 13 stitches to 10 cm as the plain stocking stitch. The ribbing is on 4.5 mm needles.
Will I have yarn left over?
The kit holds the amount for XXL: 7 balls of cypress green, 2 of wheat, 2 of amber and 1 each of arctic exposure and golden heather. Sizes S and M use 5 balls of green and 1 of amber, and L uses 6 of green.
What does the kit with needles include?
6 mm (US 10) and 4.5 mm (US 7) circular needles, each in 40 and 80 cm, and 4.5 mm and 6 mm double-pointed needles — ADDI. The pattern also uses 7 mm (US 10¾) circular needles for the colour bands; they are not included.
How do I finish the sweater?
Close the holes under the arms, weave in the ends and give the sweater a cold bath. Linka says this prevents wrinkling, removes excess colour and makes it true to size. Dry it flat on a towel so it does not stretch.
