“Everyone living in the northern hemisphere needs a good blanket from time to time and nothing beats a wool blanket.”
- Icelandic wool
- Designed in Iceland
- One colour: natural white
Mjöll is Icelandic for fresh snow, and this blanket is that colour: a soft natural white from end to end, with no pattern. Álafoss blanket no. 2001, in Icelandic wool, designed in Iceland.
Look closely and the weave has a fine, even texture, and both short ends finish in a fringe. On a pale sofa or a white bed it adds warmth and depth without adding another colour.
130 × 200 cm (about 51 × 79 in). Air it out between uses; wool rarely needs washing. When it does, hand wash in lukewarm water with wool soap, do not wring, and dry flat away from sun and heat. Prefer it dark? See Tinna #2000, its charcoal-black counterpart.

Icelandic wool, designed in Iceland
The blanket Icelanders reach for
Light on the lap and properly warm, because Icelandic wool has two layers: long outer fibres that shrug off damp, soft inner fibres that hold the heat. Air it out rather than wash it, and it lasts for years.
Why you'll love it
- Light for its sizeÍstex has measured Icelandic wool as 12–15% lighter than other wool types, so a long throw like this is easy to lift, shake out and fold.
- From the wool of Icelandic farmsÍstex, which makes the Álafoss blankets, buys its wool directly from Icelandic farmers and processes about 99% of all Icelandic wool.
- Given to friends near and farReviewers have bought Mjöll for a friend, and for a medical student from Arizona facing four Chicago winters.
