Good to know

Verur — your questions, answered

Can I still buy the colours in the photos?
Yes — all eight are still made by Ístex. Beige: oatmeal (0085), black sheep (0052), light beige (0086) and white (0051). Blue: stone blue (9418), ash (0054), rough sea (1415) and black heather (0005).
The pattern says “ash” — which yarn is that?
0054, called Light Ash Heather in our shop; our Ash Heather is 0056, a different grey. Go by the colour numbers. In our shop oatmeal (0085) is called Oatmeal Heather, black sheep (0052) Black Sheep Heather, light beige (0086) Light Beige Heather and stone blue (9418) Stone Blue Heather.
Which size should I knit?
Four sizes — 8, 10, 12 and 14 years — with a chest of 80, 84, 89 and 93 cm, 34 to 42 cm from hem to underarm and sleeves of 36 to 45 cm.
How much yarn do I need?
Léttlopi in 50 g balls, the same for both colourways: A 5 (5, 5, 6), B 2 (2, 3, 3) and one ball each of C and D — 9 balls for 8 and 10 years, 10 for 12 years and 11 for 14 years.
Which needle for the hem rib?
The body instructions cast on with a 3 mm circular needle, but the materials list has no 3 mm needle — only 3.5 mm, which the cuffs and the neckband use. The pattern does not say which is meant.
Is there a mistake in the pattern?
Yes, in the body cast-on, printed “Cast on 132 140 (148, 156, 164) sts” — five numbers for four sizes. The next step adds 4 stitches to make 144 (152, 160, 168), so cast on 140 (148, 156, 164); the “132” is a stray number (our reading).
How do I read the charts for the blue colourway?
The charts are drawn in the beige colourway’s colours, and the key gives two codes for each square, beige first and blue second. For the blue colourway, knit the brown squares (A) in stone blue, the black squares (B) in ash, the light beige squares (C) in rough sea and the white squares (D) in black heather. The blue squares in the yoke chart are not stone blue or any other yarn: they mean “no stitch” and fill the places of the stitches taken away by the decreases.
How do I get the pattern?
The PDF is emailed to you right after purchase. Nothing is posted. It is in English and has 4 pages: the cover photo of the beige colourway, a page with the materials, the sizes, the instructions, both charts and the colour key, a page with the finishing, and Ístex’s back cover.
