- Sizes S–XXL · chest 91–114 cm
Védís Jónsdóttir’s round-yoke pullover from Ístex’s Lopi 27 is knitted in Plötulopi with two strands held together, and it has no stranded colour pattern: one strand is changed at a time, so the colour moves up the sweater in bands — in the photos darkest at the hem and lightest near the neck. Twisted rib finishes the hem, cuffs and neck. Two colour versions — Moss (marsh heather with sheep black, dark brown, spruce green, beige and light beige) and Blue (winter blue with midnight blue, sea green, marsh heather, denim and faded denim) — in sizes S to XXL, with sleeve lengths for men and for women. Three of the blue colours — sea green (1422), denim (1052) and faded denim (1053) — are no longer made.

Gauge
14 sts × 19 rows = 10 cm (4″) in stocking stitch on 5½ mm needles, with two strands of Plötulopi held together.
Needles
5½ mm (US 9) circular needles, 40 and 80 cm, for the body and the yoke
4½ mm (US 7) circular needle, 80 cm, for the body rib
4½ mm (US 7) and 5½ mm (US 9) double-pointed needles for the sleeves — 4½ mm for the cuffs
The neckband is knitted on 4½ mm; the pattern does not say which needle — the 4½ mm double-pointed needles suit its 60 to 68 stitches (our suggestion)
You will also need
Stitch holders for the underarm stitches and a tapestry needle for grafting and weaving in — the instructions use them, but the pattern’s list leaves them out.
How it is knitted
Knitted with two strands of Plötulopi held together throughout, in the round from the bottom up; there is no stranded colourwork — the colour changes in bands as one strand is changed at a time. The body is cast on with A+B, 128 (136, 144, 152, 160) stitches on the 4½ mm circular, and knitted in twisted rib — knit 1 through the back loop, purl 1 — for 4 cm; then on 5½ mm in stocking stitch: A+B to 15 (15, 16, 16, 16) cm from the cast-on edge, A+C for 14 (14, 14, 15, 15) cm, A+D for 12 (13, 13, 13, 14) cm and A+E for 1 cm, to 42 (43, 44, 45, 46) cm. The sleeves are cast on with A+B, 36 (38, 38, 40, 42) stitches on 4½ mm double-pointed needles, with the same 4 cm of twisted rib; on 5½ mm, 2 stitches are increased at the underarm in the first round and then every 12th (12th, 11th, 11th, 11th) round for a man’s sleeve or every 11th (11th, 10th, 10th, 10th) round for a woman’s, 7 (7, 8, 8, 8) times in all, to 50 (52, 54, 56, 58), with the colour bands at lengths given for each. Body and sleeves are joined with A+E for the round yoke, 200 (208, 216, 224, 232) stitches, and the 45-round yoke chart — rounds 1–4 in A+E, then E+E, E+F and F+F — with five decrease rounds takes it to 75 (78, 81, 84, 87); sizes S to XL leave out marked rounds. The neckband is knitted with E+E on 4½ mm: one round decreasing 15 (16, 17, 18, 19) stitches, 4 cm of twisted rib, then 6 rounds of stocking stitch with a single strand of E, bound off loosely. The underarms are grafted, and the sweater is rinsed by hand and laid flat to dry.

Why you'll love it
- Colour without colourworkTwo strands are knitted together and one is changed at a time; A stays in every band of the body and sleeves, and the yoke chart moves on to E and F.
- Changeable on purposeThe pattern asks you to vary the way you carry the two strands as you knit, to make the colours more changeable.
- Twisted ribThe hem, cuffs and neckband are knitted in twisted rib — knit 1 through the back loop, purl 1; the neck ends with 6 rounds of a single strand, bound off loosely.
- For men and womenMen’s sleeves of 49–53 cm and women’s of 46–50 cm, with the colour bands spaced for each.
