Ungi — a young one. Védís Jónsdóttir’s baby cardigan from Ístex’s Lopi 26, knitted back and forth in garter stitch with a single strand of Plötulopi: a raglan yoke, a round of single crochet all around the edge, and 3 to 5 small buttons with thread loops. The pattern gives three single-colour versions — golden yellow, clover green and sunset rose — each from one plate of Plötulopi, in sizes 6, 9 and 12 months.

Gauge
17 sts × 32 rows = 10 cm (4″) in garter stitch on 5 mm needles, with a single strand of Plötulopi.
Needles
5 mm (US 8) circular needle, 60 cm — the body, the sleeves and the yoke are all knitted back and forth on it, so no double-pointed needles are needed
You will also need
A 3.5 mm (E/4) crochet hook for the edging and 3–5 small buttons (both in the pattern’s list), buttonhole thread to match for the button loops, stitch holders for the underarm stitches and 4 stitch markers.
How it is knitted
Knitted back and forth in garter stitch (knit every row) with a single strand of Plötulopi on a 5 mm circular needle. The body is one piece, cast on with 86 (92, 98) stitches and knitted straight to 16 (18, 20) cm. The sleeves are knitted flat too, increased at both edges 6 times, then sewn into tubes from the right side. Body and sleeves are joined on the needle for the raglan yoke — 138 (148, 158) stitches, with 5 stitches of the body and 5 of each sleeve left on holders at the underarms — and decreased beside the four raglan markers every other row, 8 (9, 10) times. Five short rows with wrapped stitches shape the neckline while the decreases go on, down to 42 (44, 46) stitches, which are bound off knitwise from the wrong side. The underarms are grafted, a round of single crochet on a 3.5 mm hook goes all around the edge, and 3–5 small buttons are sewn on, with loops of buttonhole thread to match.
