Good to know

Túlipanar (Tulips) — your questions, answered

Which size and length should I knit?
Two sizes, S/M and L/XL, and two lengths. The short cape is 23 cm long, the long one 38 cm, measured after blocking. The size table gives the hem as 275 (363) cm around for the short cape and 285 (380) cm for the long one. The model wears S/M, long.
How much yarn do I need?
Einband in 50 g balls, flame red (1770): 4 balls for S/M and 5 for L/XL. The pattern gives one amount per size, not one for each length. Flame red is still made by Ístex.
How do I read the charts?
Only the right-side rows are charted. Every wrong-side row is the same: p1, k1, p6, k1, p1, purl to the last 10 stitches, p1, k1, p6, k1, p1. Both charts are also written out row by row. In chart 2 a red frame marks the 8 stitches that are repeated; each lace section works two more of them every time you start the 16 rows again.
Anything to watch for?
A few things. The row after the pick-up prints only the S/M count, “p13”, between the markers; for L/XL the 109 stitches make five sections of 21 with one stitch between them, which is what chart 2 row 9 — where L/XL starts — needs (our calculation). In the size table, the L/XL short cape (363 cm) and the S/M long cape (285 cm) don’t match the stitch counts: at the pattern’s gauge 529 and 649 stitches come to about 298 and 365 cm (our calculation), so those two figures look as if they were printed in each other’s places. Knit by the stitch counts. The needle is printed as US 3; 3 mm is US 2½. And the materials list leaves out the cable needle and a tapestry needle.
Is everything in the photos part of the pattern?
The cape is, in its original colour. The white dress and the earrings are not.
How do I get the pattern?
The PDF is emailed to you right after purchase. Nothing is posted. It is in English and has 4 pages: the cover photo; a page with a small photo, the materials, sizes, gauge, notes, both charts written out, the back neck edge and a large photo; a page with the key, both charts, the cape body and the finishing; and Ístex’s back cover with a photo from behind.
