Good to know

Tindur — your questions, answered

Can I still buy the colours in the photo?
Seven of the eight are still made by Ístex: chartreuse green heather (9965), cypress green heather (9966), black sheep heather (0052), indigo blue (9959), light indigo blue (9958), white (0051) and happy red (0047); in our shop 9959 and 9958 are called Indigo and Light Indigo. Sunshine yellow (0017), used only for the yellow flowers, is no longer in Ístex’s Álafosslopi range. Our kit uses golden heather (9964) in its place.
How much yarn do I need?
Álafosslopi in 100 g balls: one ball each of the seven lettered colours, A to G. Happy red (G) is used for the tip and also for the red flowers. For the yellow flowers you need a little yellow; the pattern gives no amount.
How big is it?
The pattern gives 62 cm around and 26–28 cm deep; it gives no gauge and no size before fulling. It is fulled in the washing machine at 60°C, and the pattern says it may need two washes to reach the right size and thickness. It covers the whole teapot — there are no openings for the spout or the handle.
The text stops at 3 stitches — where does the red tip come from?
From the chart: rounds 59–64 are six rounds of red (G) on the last 3 stitches. The text leaves them out, so follow the chart before you break the yarn. The chart has no colour key: its colours follow the letters A to G from the bottom up, the light grey squares mean “no stitch” after the decreases, and the dots are purl (our reading).
What else do I need?
Fabric for the lining — the pattern uses the cosy as a template and gives no amount — sewing thread and a needle, and a tapestry needle for the embroidery. None of these is in the pattern’s materials list.
How do I get the pattern?
The PDF is emailed to you right after purchase. Nothing is posted. It is in English and has 4 pages: the cover photo, one page with the materials, the size, the instructions, the fulling, embroidery and lining steps and the colour chart, a blank page and Ístex’s back cover.
