The boy wears the blue version — heaven blue with a navy yoke of green, orange, red and yellow motifs and navy rolled edges. Sun yellow, orange and light red are no longer made. Good to know

Þíða — your questions, answered

Can I still buy the colours in the photo?
Red sweater: crimson red (9434), black (0059), glacier blue (1404), spring green (1406) and pink (1412) are still made by Ístex; sun yellow (1411) is not. Blue sweater: heaven blue (1402), navy blue (9420) and spring green (1406) are still made; orange (1410), light red (1408) and sun yellow (1411) are not. Our red kit uses 1703 mimosa for sun yellow — a golden, slightly mustard yellow, clearly deeper and stronger than the light yellow in the photo. Our blue kit uses 1704 apricot for orange — the same warm hue, but a clearly browner, darker and duller ginger orange, so the arrows look more muted than in the photo; 9434 crimson red for light red, which is very close — the girl’s red sweater in the same photo is knitted in crimson red; and 1703 mimosa for sun yellow, stronger and more saturated than the softer yellow in the photo. Our shop calls 1402, 1406 and 1412 heaven blue heather, spring green heather and pink heather, so go by the colour numbers.
Which size should I knit?
Four sizes — 2, 4, 6 and 8 years — with a chest of 63, 70, 76 and 83 cm, and 24, 27, 30 and 33 cm from the hem to the underarm. The sleeves are the same length to the underarm: 24 to 33 cm. The chest matches the body’s 114 to 150 stitches at the pattern’s gauge (our check), so it is the finished sweater’s measurement all the way round.
How much yarn do I need?
Léttlopi in 50 g balls, the same amounts for both versions: the main colour (A) 4 (4, 5, 6) balls — crimson red for the red sweater, heaven blue for the blue — and one ball each of the five yoke colours: 9 balls for 2 and 4 years, 10 for 6 years and 11 for 8 years.
What are the rolled edges?
Each cuff starts, and the neckband ends, with 5 rounds of stocking stitch in a contrast colour — pink (E) on the red sweater, navy blue (B) on the blue. Stocking stitch curls by itself, so these rounds roll over into a soft edge beside the rib, as in the photo. The body hem is plain K1, P1 rib in the main colour.
Is anything missing from the pattern?
Only small things. In the yoke the pattern says to change to shorter needles when the round gets tight, but it lists no shorter circular. The 4.5 mm double-pointed needles in the list can take over for the last rounds (our reading); a 4.5 mm circular in 40 cm can take the middle rounds of the yoke if you have one (our suggestion). The materials list also leaves out stitch holders (or scrap yarn) for the underarm stitches and a tapestry needle for grafting them. In the chart, “skip rnd size …” means leave that round out in your size. We checked the stitch counts — body, sleeve increases, the yoke join, all four decrease rounds and the neckband — and found no mistakes (our check).
Which version is in the photo?
Both, in the pattern’s own colours: the girl wears the red version and the boy the blue. The jeans, the boots, her hair bobbles, the dog and its lead are not part of the pattern.
How do I get the pattern?
The PDF is emailed to you right after purchase. Nothing is posted. It is in English and has 4 pages: the cover photo, a page with the materials for both versions, the sizes, the instructions and the yoke chart with its key, a page with the neckband and the finishing, and Ístex’s back cover.
