Good to know

Tattó — your questions, answered

Which colour is in the photo?
Both. The woman wears Tattó in white (0051) and the man in light beige heather (0086). Both colours are still made by Ístex, and the pattern gives the same amounts for each. The tucks show best on her left sleeve and by her left armhole.
Which size should I knit?
Four sizes — S, M, L and XL — with a chest of 102, 109, 117 and 124 cm, a length of 64, 66, 68 and 70 cm and a sleeve length of 51, 52, 53 and 54 cm. The body is 44 (45, 46, 48) cm from the hem to the armholes. The chest matches the body’s stitch count at the pattern’s gauge (our check). The pattern has no women’s or men’s sizing; in the photo a woman and a man both wear it.
How much yarn do I need?
Álafosslopi in 100 g balls, one colour for the whole sweater: 7 balls in S and M, 8 in L and XL — white (0051) or light beige heather (0086).
What are the “bridges”?
The pattern’s word for the raised strips and the tucks. A vertical bridge is a 3-stitch strip: a loop is picked up and held while the body is knitted on, then 3 stitches are made from it and knitted to the same length, decreased to one and knitted together with a body stitch; at the end each strip is stitched down. A horizontal bridge is a tuck: the stitches are knitted for 6 rows, and in row 7 each one is knitted together with the stitch 6 rows below, picked up on a spare needle. The bobbles are made in one row: three stitches from one, then the two extra stitches are passed over.
What should I know before I start?
It is seamed, with set-in sleeves, bobbles, strips and tucks, and the pattern has gaps and misprints: the front neck shaping is not given size by size, so you will work it out yourself (by our arithmetic the printed numbers add up only for size L); the sleeve top gives the stitches left but not how many to cast off; and in size XL, casting off 6 stitches at each armhole leaves 75 stitches each for front and back, not the printed 78 — 3 at each side matches the later counts. Also, in sizes M and XL the K2, P2 rib stitch counts do not divide by 4, so the rib will not meet neatly where the round starts.
What else do I need?
The materials list gives only the yarn and the needles. The instructions also use stitch holders (for the strip loops, the back neck and the saddle straps), stitch markers, a spare needle for the tucks and a sewing needle for the seams and the strips. By our reading you will also want 6 mm double-pointed needles for the lower sleeves. The pattern prints the 5 mm needles as US 9; 5 mm is US 8.
Is everything in the photo part of the pattern?
The two sweaters are. The jeans are not.
How do I get the pattern?
The PDF is emailed to you right after purchase. Nothing is posted. It is in English and has 4 pages: the cover photo, a page with the materials, sizes, the steps for bobbles and bridges, the body, back and front and the start of the sleeves, a page with the rest of the sleeves, the collar and the finishing, and Ístex’s back cover.
