Strokkur — the name of a geyser at Geysir in Iceland. Ásta Guðrún Jóhannsdóttir’s neck warmer from Ístex’s Lopi 31 is knitted in the round in fine Einband, in a 7-round wave pattern of yarn overs and decreases: a new colour every wave, oatmeal heather between blush, grenadine and dark wine, with a purled ridge between them. One size, 52 cm round and 44 cm long.

How it is knitted
Knitted in the round on the 40 cm needle. 108 stitches are cast on in oatmeal heather, then 1 knit round, 1 purl round and 3 knit rounds. Then comes the 7-round wave pattern, 12 stitches wide and repeated 9 times round: on rounds 2 and 5 each repeat has two yarn overs and a knit 3 together through the back loops, rounds 1, 3, 4 and 6 are knitted, and round 7 is purled. The colour changes after every pattern, in the order oatmeal heather, blush, oatmeal heather, grenadine, oatmeal heather, dark wine and so on — 19 waves, ending with oatmeal heather — so the first round of each colour is knitted and the last is purled. One more round in oatmeal heather, and a loose bind-off.
Design: Ásta Guðrún Jóhannsdóttir — pattern from Lopi No. 31 (no. 26), Ístex.
