Good to know

Stigi — your questions, answered

How big is it?
One size: 200 cm long and 20 cm wide, plus the fringes at both ends. The width matches the 20 stitches at the pattern’s gauge (our check).
How much yarn do I need?
4 hanks of white Jöklalopi (0051), 100 g each. The pattern lists no other yarn, so the fringes come from the same hanks (our reading). White Jöklalopi is still made by Ístex; our shop sells Jöklalopi as Bulky Lopi.
How is the eyelet column knitted?
Over 4 stitches in the middle of the scarf. Row 1: knit 2 together, wrap the yarn over the needle twice, then slip 2 stitches knitwise one at a time and knit them together through the front. Row 2: purl 1, knit and purl into the double yarn over, purl 1. The pattern prints “Warp the yarn over twice” — it means wrap.
How are the fringes made?
Cut 60 strands of 50 cm. Take three strands, fold them in half, slip the loop through the edge of the scarf, slide the cut ends through the loop and tighten. Make ten fringes at each end and cut them even.
Can I use Plötulopi instead?
The pattern says “four ply Plötulopi” can replace Jöklalopi — four strands of Plötulopi held together (our reading) — but then the fringes need to be braided, because Plötulopi is unspun. It gives no amount for Plötulopi.
Is everything in the photos part of the pattern?
Only the scarf. The sweater, shaded from light grey to almost black, and the light trousers are not.
How do I get the pattern?
The PDF is emailed to you right after purchase. Nothing is posted. It is in English and has 4 pages: the cover photo; one page with the size, materials, gauge, the stitch instructions, the scarf and the fringes; a full-page photo; and Ístex’s back cover.
