Sokkar — your questions, answered

Can I still buy the colours in the photo?
Two of the three are still made by Ístex: spring green (1406), the green pair at the bottom right, and glacier blue (1404), the turquoise pair in the middle. Our shop calls 1406 spring green heather, so go by the colour numbers. Sun yellow (1411), the yellow pair at the top, is no longer made. Our yellow kit uses mimosa (1703) in its place — a golden yellow, close to the yellow pair in the photo but not the same yarn, so the shade will not be exactly the same.
Which size should I knit?
Three sizes, for ages 2, 4 and 6: 24, 32 and 36 stitches around. The pattern prints no gauge and no measurements, so we can’t give a foot length. Note the big step from age 2 to age 4 (24 to 32 stitches). If you know the child’s foot length, knit a few more or fewer plain rounds in the foot before the toe (our suggestion).
How much yarn do I need?
Léttlopi in 50 g balls, for the pair: 1 ball for ages 2 and 4, 2 balls for age 6, in the colour you choose.
How is the heel made?
It is an afterthought heel. On the way down you knit the first 12 (16, 18) stitches — half the round — with waste yarn (the pattern says “to holder”), slip them back and knit them again with the sock yarn. After the toe, take out the waste yarn, pick up all the stitches round the opening — 24 (32, 36), the whole round — knit 2 rounds and shape the heel like the toe. The waste yarn is not in the pattern’s list.
Is anything unclear in the pattern?
In the decreases, “work to end of rnd” and “until 3 sts are left of rnd” mean the end of each needle — each of the four needles holds a quarter of the stitches. And after “Knit 1 rnd”, decrease every round until 8 stitches are left (our reading); every size then comes out at exactly 8.
How do I get the pattern?
The PDF is emailed to you right after purchase. Nothing is posted. It is in English and has 4 pages: the cover photo with all three pairs, one page with the materials for all three versions, the sizes and all the instructions, a blank page and Ístex’s back cover.
