A 0051 white — 2
Size
One size, M/L. The pattern gives no finished measurements; the hat is 38 stitches wide in brioche stitch and knitted to 32 cm before the top. The seam changes sides 10 cm from the cast-on edge, so it stays hidden when the brim is turned up.
Gauge
8 sts × 11 rows = 10 cm (4″) in brioche stitch on 8 mm needles (the pattern notes: 1 row = work back and forth).
Needles
8 mm (US 11) circular needle, 60 cm — the hat is knitted back and forth on it, not in the round
You will also need
An 8 mm (US L/11) crochet hook for the flower (in the pattern’s list), and a tapestry needle for the seam and for sewing on the flower.
How it is knitted
Knitted flat in brioche stitch on 8 mm and seamed. 38 stitches are cast on very loosely, and two rows of knit 1, yarn over, slip 1 purlwise are repeated — on the second row you knit the stitch that carries the yarn over. The hat is knitted to 32 cm, then the top is decreased in two right-side rows, with a purl row between, to 10 stitches and drawn together. The seam is sewn from the right side, except the last 10 cm, which are sewn from the wrong side so the seam doesn’t show when the brim is turned up. The flower is crocheted in four rounds with an 8 mm hook, with chain loops at its centre, and fastened to the side or top after the hat is rinsed.
