Why you'll love it

  • Two yarns as oneA strand of Einband and a strand of Plötulopi knitted together give a two-tone fabric — lime or orange flecked with chocolate.
  • Stripes in Einband aloneMen’s: double lime Einband round the yoke and on the right upper arm. Ladies’: single orange Einband round the yoke, near the right cuff and on the left upper arm.
  • Bright edgesThe hem and cuffs are cast on, and the neck bound off, with double Einband — a thin line of colour in the photos.
  • Plain yokeNo colourwork: the round yoke is stocking stitch, shaped from a decrease chart.

Good to know

Slydda — your questions, answered

Can I still buy the colours in the photos?
Yes. Einband 9268 lime, Einband 1766 orange and Plötulopi 1032 chocolate are all still made by Ístex. Our shop calls 1032 chocolate heather, so go by the colour numbers.
How are the two yarns used?
One strand of Einband and one of Plötulopi are held together and knitted as one yarn for the whole sweater. Einband on its own is used for the cast-on edges, the neck bind-off and the stripes — two strands for the men’s stripes, one strand for the ladies’.
Which size should I knit?
Five sizes — XS, S, M, L and XL — with a chest of 96, 100, 106, 111 and 117 cm and 40, 42, 44, 44 and 46 cm from the hem to the underarm. Men’s sleeves are 47 to 54 cm to the underarm, ladies’ 43 to 50 cm. The body is cast on with 128 (136, 144, 152, 160) stitches and has no shaping; at the pattern’s 14 stitches to 10 cm that is about 91 (97, 103, 109, 114) cm all the way round — a few centimetres less than the printed chest (our calculation). Compare with a sweater that fits well before you choose.
How much yarn do I need?
The same in every size: 4 balls (50 g) of Einband and 3 plates (100 g) of Plötulopi — lime (9268) and chocolate (1032) for the men’s version, orange (1766) and chocolate (1032) for the ladies’.
Where do the stripes go?
Men’s: the right sleeve is knitted to 37 (39, 40, 42, 44) cm, then 5 cm in double lime Einband, then 5 cm more in both yarns to the underarm; the left sleeve has no stripe. The yoke stripe is 12 rounds of double Einband from round 13 of the chart. Ladies’: a 5 cm stripe of single Einband from 9 cm on the right sleeve and from 33 (36, 38, 39, 40) cm on the left; the yoke stripe is 10 rounds from round 16 of the chart.
Is anything unclear in the pattern?
A few small things. The body is cast on with a long 4.5 mm circular needle, which the materials list leaves out, as it does stitch holders and a tapestry needle. Three times a stray Icelandic “L” (short for stitches) is left in the text.
Is everything in the photos part of the pattern?
The sweaters are. His jeans and her black leggings with shiny panels are not.
How do I get the pattern?
The PDF is emailed to you right after purchase. Nothing is posted. It is in English and has 4 pages: the cover photo of both versions; a page with a small photo, the sizes, the materials for both versions, gauge, notes, the body, the sleeves and the yoke chart with its key; a page with the yoke, the neckline, the finishing and a close-up photo of the ladies’ yoke; and Ístex’s back cover.
