Good to know

Rjúpa — your questions, answered

How much yarn do I need?
The pattern lists the four Léttlopi colours — black (0059), light beige (0086), acorn (0053) and white (0051) — but no amounts. By our count from the stitches, each colour needs less than one 50 g ball: black, the most used, a little over half a ball, white about half, and light beige and acorn much less. Our kit for this pattern has one ball of each. All four colours are still made by Ístex; our shop calls 0086 light beige heather and 0053 acorn heather.
What size is it?
One size, given in the pattern as a women’s size, with no measurements. It is cast on with 192 stitches at the lower edge and narrows to 64 at the base of the collar, at 18 stitches to 10 cm — about 107 cm round at the lower edge and about 36 cm at the base of the collar (our calculation). The lace collar widens to 72 stitches in round 12 of its 19 chart rounds.
What do I tie it with?
A silk ribbon, threaded through the eyelets above the colourwork — the photo shows a narrow black one tied in a bow at the front. The pattern gives no length, and says you can make your own cord from the black yarn instead. It also says to place the start and end of the round behind the left shoulder.
The pattern says “warp stitch” — what is that?
A misprint for wrap stitch. When you turn the work before the lace collar, slip the first stitch from the right needle to the left, bring the yarn between the needles to the back and return the stitch to the right needle, so no hole forms.
How is the lace collar knitted?
In white, from chart 2, after the work is turned. On 64 stitches, lace rounds of an 8-stitch repeat — K2 tog, yo, K1, yo, slip 1, K1, psso, K3 — alternate with plain knit rounds. Round 12 increases to 72 stitches and the repeat becomes 9 stitches; round 19 is a second eyelet round (K2 tog, yo all round), then 1 knit round and a very loose cast-off. The pattern writes out every lace round as well as charting it.
Is there a skirt to match?
Pífa, a flared skirt from the same book, Lopi 26, uses the same four colours and a matching colourwork border, with a white lace frill at the hem. It is a separate pattern.
How do I get the pattern?
The PDF is emailed to you right after purchase. Nothing is posted. It is in English and has 4 pages: the cover photo, one page with the materials, size, gauge, all the instructions, both charts and the key, a blank page and Ístex’s back cover.
