Good to know

Örk — your questions, answered

Can I still buy the colours in the photo?
Yes. Both are still made by Ístex: chocolate (0867) and light beige (0086). Our shop calls them chocolate heather and light beige heather.
Which size should I knit?
Five sizes — S, M, L, XL and XXL — with a chest of 92, 98, 105, 110 and 116 cm, 41 to 46 cm from the hem to the underarm, and sleeves of 49 to 53 cm. The back and the front are each 79 (83, 89, 95, 99) stitches wide, which at the pattern’s gauge comes to about 93, 97.5, 104.5, 112 and 116.5 cm all the way round — within 2 cm of the printed chest (our check).
How much yarn do I need?
Léttlopi in 50 g balls: chocolate 9 (9, 10, 10, 11) and light beige 2 in every size — 11 to 13 balls in all.
How does the two-colour border work?
Only one colour is knitted at a time: two rows — one garter ridge — in one colour, then two in the other. The stitches that belong to the other colour are slipped purlwise, with the yarn kept on the wrong side, and the second row of each pair knits and slips the same stitches. The charts mark the slipped stitches, and each size starts at its own point.
Why two needle sizes?
The pattern gives two gauges: 17 stitches and 36 rows to 10 cm in garter stitch on 4.5 mm, and 17 stitches and 38 rows over the border pattern on 6 mm — so the borders, on the bigger needle, come out as wide as the garter stitch above them. By our calculation the 38-row borders are about 10 cm deep.
Anything to watch for?
Two small things. In size S the back and front are knitted to 42 cm before the armholes, while the size table gives 41 cm to the underarm; the other sizes match. And the materials list leaves out a stitch holder and a tapestry needle.
Is everything in the photo part of the pattern?
The sweater is, in its original colours. The dark T-shirt under it and the grey trousers are not.
How do I get the pattern?
The PDF is emailed to you right after purchase. Nothing is posted. It is in English and has 4 pages: the cover photo; a page with a small photo, the sizes, materials, gauge, the back and front and chart 1; a page with the sleeves, the finishing, chart 2 and the key; and Ístex’s back cover.
