Smiling young man by the water in Múr — a round-yoke pullover textured all over with purl ridges and small offset blocks, with a plain neck and no rib, shown in the pattern’s original colour, green moss (9985, no longer made). The black top showing at his neck and the dark trousers are not part of the pattern

Why you'll love it

  • One texture, hem to neckEight rounds of knit and purl, repeated over the body, sleeves and yoke — rows of small offset blocks between purl ridges.
  • No rib at allThe hem and cuffs start straight in the texture, and the neck ends with a purl round and a loose bind-off.
  • Written out, no chartsThe texture is given round by round in a short note at the start — knit and purl only, in one colour.
  • Round yokeBody and sleeves are joined for a yoke shaped by seven decrease rounds, each worked evenly round the yoke.

Good to know

Múr — your questions, answered

Can I still buy the colour in the photo?
No. Green moss (9985), the only colour in the pattern, is no longer made by Ístex. Our Múr kit uses 1230 highland green in its place — an olive green heather, a little browner and less bright than the moss green in the photo. As the sweater is one colour, you can knit it in any Álafosslopi colour; the amounts stay the same.
Which size should I knit?
Five sizes, XS to XL, with a chest of 87, 93, 99, 104 and 110 cm, 42, 44, 46, 48 and 50 cm from the hem to the underarm, and sleeves of 50, 52, 52, 53 and 54 cm to the underarm. The body is cast on with 122 to 154 stitches, which comes to the printed chest at the pattern’s gauge (our check), so the chest is the finished sweater’s measurement all the way round — choose by the size you want the sweater to be. The pattern prints no total length; it comes to about 60 to 70 cm (our calculation). It is shown on a young man; the pattern does not say women or men.
How much yarn do I need?
Álafosslopi in 100 g balls, all in one colour: 8 (8, 9, 9, 10) balls — 8 for XS and S, 9 for M and L, 10 for XL.
How does the texture work?
It is knit and purl only, written out in the Note at the start of the pattern: rounds 1 and 2, K1, P1; round 3, knit; round 4, purl; rounds 5 and 6, P1, K1; round 7, knit; round 8, purl — “These 8 rnds are rep in the whole sweater.” The body and sleeves end on round 2 or 6. The pattern does not say where in the 8 rounds the yoke decreases fall. Our reading: the joining round and the purl round after it are the first 2 of the 16 yoke rounds — then every decrease falls on a plain knit round (round 3 or 7), and the purl round before the bind-off follows straight on in the texture.
Anything to watch for in the pattern?
Three small slips. After the first yoke decrease it says “Work 3 (3, 7, 7) rnds” — four numbers for five sizes. We take them as XS, S, M and L, and work 7 rounds for XL too, so its yoke is as deep as M and L (our reading). The body says to end “with 2nd or 6th rnd in chart” — there is no chart; it means the written 8-round texture. And the last decrease says “row” where it means round. The materials list also leaves out stitch holders for the underarm stitches and a tapestry needle for grafting them.
Is everything in the photo part of the pattern?
The sweater is. The black top showing at the neck and the dark trousers are not — the sweater’s own neck is a single purl round and a loose bind-off.
How do I get the pattern?
The PDF is emailed to you right after purchase. Nothing is posted. It is in English and has 4 pages: the cover photo, one page with a small photo, the materials, sizes, gauge, the texture and all the instructions, a blank page and Ístex’s back cover.
