Good to know

Miðja — your questions, answered

Can I still buy the colours in the photos?
Yes. White-grey: white (0851), ash heather (1026), light grey (1027) and grey (9102) are all still made by Ístex. Sand-black: sandstorm (9075), chocolate (0867) and black (0059) are still made. The sand-black list also prints “0052 black sheep”, but Einband has no colour 0052 — 0052 is the black sheep heather of Léttlopi and Álafosslopi, which are much thicker yarns. We read it as a misprint for Einband 0852 black sheep heather, which is still made and is what our sand and black kit uses. Our shop calls 1026 light ash heather, 1027 ash heather, 9102 grey heather and 9075 pecan heather, so go by the colour numbers.
Which size should I knit?
Three sizes, S, M and L/XL — a chest of 77, 86 and 96 cm (the pattern notes that the knit stretches), 120, 135 and 150 cm round the hem, and 78, 81 and 85 cm from the hem to the armhole. Long sleeves are 40, 42 and 44 cm; the pattern gives no length for the short sleeves. It says to add pattern rounds for a longer dress or leave some out for a shorter one.
How much yarn do I need?
Einband in 50 g balls, the same for both colourways. Main colour
Short or long sleeves?
The pattern gives both. After the first lace round, five knit rounds and a lace round are repeated 4 (5, 5) times for a short sleeve and 17 (18, 19) times for a long one. In the photos the sand and black dresses have long sleeves and the white and grey ones short, but either colourway can have either sleeve.
How is the lace knitted?
Every section is five knit rounds and one lace round. In the lace round, groups of K2tog alternate with groups of yarn over, K1, so the stitch count does not change. The narrowing happens in separate decrease rounds, 3 stitches in every repeat, and each colour starts on a lace round: A, B, C and D up to the waist, then C, B and A above it. The gauge is given per pattern repeat after washing and blocking, and the pattern asks for a washed and blocked swatch first, because the knit stretches significantly.
Is anything unclear in the pattern?
A few small things (our reading). In size M the waist has 189 stitches, an odd number, so the twisted rib does not meet evenly where the round starts. In the M yoke the pattern says to work five knit rounds and a lace round “1- 2 times depending on bust size”, with no more guidance. The first lace round prints “=> 26 L.”, which means 26 stitches, and the long sleeve line “*5 rnds, work 1 lace rnd*” means 5 knit rounds. The round starts at the left side in S and L/XL but at the centre back in M. The materials list leaves out stitch holders and a marker.
Is everything in the photos part of the pattern?
The dresses are. The black boots, the seated woman’s black gloves, the ring, the stool and the chair are not.
How do I get the pattern?
The PDF is emailed to you right after purchase. Nothing is posted. It is in English and has 6 pages: the cover photo of the sand and black version, three pages with the materials, sizes, gauge, all the instructions, the chart for the skirt and the two yoke charts, a page of four photos of the white and grey version, and Ístex’s back cover.
