Why you'll love it

  • Zigzag yokeAn orange lattice of zigzags and diagonals on the pale ground, narrowing into panels towards the neck.
  • Two yarns as oneWhite Plötulopi with peach Einband gives the pale, flecked body; golden blush with grenadine gives the orange pattern.

Good to know

Mar — your questions, answered

Can I still buy the colours in the photos?
Yes. All four are still made by Ístex: Plötulopi white (0001) and golden blush (2028), and Einband peach (9990) and grenadine (9171).
Which colour is which in the chart?
Read the chart key with care. It draws the darker orange square as A+C (white and peach) and the pale square as B+D (golden blush and grenadine). But the yoke begins straight after the body in A+C, the first four rounds of the chart are all pale, and in the photos the ground is pale with an orange pattern — so knit the pale squares in A+C and the orange squares in B+D (our reading).
Why two different yarns?
Plötulopi is unspun Icelandic wool in 100 g plates; Einband is a fine 1-ply lace yarn in 50 g balls. One strand of each is knitted together, on 5.5 mm needles — 15 stitches to 10 cm. Only the first 5 rounds of each hem are knitted in peach Einband alone.
Which size should I knit?
Six sizes, XS to 2XL, with a chest of 90, 97, 104, 110, 117 and 124 cm all the way round; it matches the body’s stitch count at the pattern’s gauge (our check). It is cropped: 30 to 35 cm from the fold of the hem to the underarm, with sleeves of 43 to 48 cm.
How much yarn do I need?
Plötulopi in 100 g plates: white (A) 2 (2, 3, 3, 3, 4) and golden blush (B) 1 in every size. Einband in 50 g balls: peach (C) 3 (3, 4, 4, 4, 5) and grenadine (D) 1 in every size.
How are the hems made?
Instead of rib, the body and each sleeve are cast on loosely in peach Einband alone and knitted for 5 rounds; then white Plötulopi is added for 1 round, a purl round marks the fold, and 5 more rounds follow. At the end the hems are folded to the inside along the purl round and slip-stitched down. The neckband is ribbed, with 1 round of rib in golden blush and grenadine, then a purl round and 5 more rounds of rib, and is folded the same way. The pattern does not say to change back to white and peach after the purl round, so the inner half stays golden blush and grenadine (our reading).
Is anything else unclear in the pattern?
The body and sleeve instructions say “Einbandi color C” — that simply means Einband, colour C. And the lengths are measured from the purl round, not from the cast-on edge.
Is everything in the photos part of the pattern?
The sweater is, in the pattern’s own colours. The light pink trousers and the large white cloth beside her are not.
How do I get the pattern?
The PDF is emailed to you right after purchase. Nothing is posted. It is in English and has 4 pages: the cover photo; a page with the sizes, materials, gauge, a photo and all the instructions; a page with the yoke chart and the colour key; and Ístex’s back cover.
