- Sizes XS–L · chest 98–117 cm
Anna Árnadóttir’s round-yoke sweater from Ístex’s Lopi 18, adapted by Védís Jónsdóttir: a loose, hip-length women’s pullover in Álafosslopi, knitted in the round from the bottom up, in sizes XS to L. In the photo it is a dark green tweed with small coloured flecks, with a warm yoke of antique gold, copper, burnt red and quiet purple — small gold diamonds, a band of flame shapes, gold tulip shapes edged in copper and red, and small motifs up to the neck — the same flames above the hem and cuffs, and dusty teal purl edges that roll at the hem, cuffs and neck. One colour version. Five of its six colours are no longer made: spruce tweed (0168), antique gold (9332), copper (9384), burnt red (9389) and dusty teal (9305); quiet purple (0163) still is.

Gauge
13 sts × 18 rows = 10 cm (4″) in stocking stitch on 6 mm needles.
Needles
5 mm (US 8) circular needle, 80 cm, and 5 mm double-pointed needles — for the purl edges at the hem and cuffs
6 mm (US 10) circular needles, 40 and 80 cm — for the body, the sleeves and the yoke
4.5 mm (US 7) double-pointed needles — for the neckband
By our reading also 6 mm (US 10) double-pointed needles for the sleeves: each sleeve changes to the 6 mm circular with only 40 stitches, about 31 cm round, too few for a 40 cm circular. The pattern’s list leaves them out
The pattern calls a circular needle a “twin pin”
You will also need
Stitch holders for the underarm stitches (in the pattern’s list), and a tapestry needle for grafting the underarms and sewing down the neckband, which the list leaves out.
How it is knitted
Knitted in the round from the bottom up. The body is cast on with 124 (132, 140, 148) stitches in E, dusty teal, on the 5 mm circular and purled for 7 rounds; this reverse stocking stitch rolls to the right side, so the pattern knits the body and sleeves 2 cm longer than the size table. On 6 mm comes an 11-round border from chart 1, with 4 stitches increased in its first round — quiet purple, then burnt red and copper, topped with small antique gold crosses — and the body goes on in spruce tweed to 41 (43, 45, 46) cm. The sleeves are cast on with 36 stitches in E on 5 mm double-pointed needles, purled for 7 rounds, given the same border on 6 mm with 4 stitches increased, then knitted in spruce tweed and increased at both ends of the 2nd round and every 8th (8th, 7th, 6th) round after it, 5 (6, 7, 9) times, to 52 (54, 56, 60) stitches. Body and sleeves are joined for the round yoke — 200 (208, 216, 232) stitches — and a 41-round chart with five decrease rounds takes it down to 75 (78, 81, 87); the smaller sizes leave out marked rounds. The neckband is 9 rounds of K1, P1 rib in spruce tweed on 4.5 mm double-pointed needles, decreased to 54 (54, 56, 58) stitches in the first round, then in dusty teal 1 knit round, 6 purl rounds and 9 rounds of rib. It is cast off loosely, folded in half to the inside and slip-stitched, so the purl rounds make the edge at the neck (our reading). The underarm stitches are grafted.
