Good to know

Lopi 12 No. 22 — your questions, answered

Can I still buy the colours in the photo?
Yes. All four are still made by Ístex: 0051 (M, the white body), 0005 (A), 0056 (B) and 0053 (C). The leaflet prints only the colour numbers; our shop calls them white, black heather, ash heather and acorn heather, so go by the numbers. In the photo 0005 is the dark points and lines, 0056 the grey tops of the points, and 0053 the brown frames round the white ovals and squares.
Which size should I knit?
Five sizes, XS to XL, with a chest of 98, 105, 111, 117 and 123 cm and a length of 62, 65, 68, 70 and 72 cm to the centre front neck. Sleeves are 41 to 45 cm to the underarm for women and 46 to 50 cm for men, and the body is 38 to 44 cm from the hem to the underarm. The chest matches the body’s stitch count at the pattern’s gauge (our check), so choose by the width you want the sweater to be.
How much yarn do I need?
Álafosslopi in 100 g balls: M (0051) 6 (7, 7, 8, 8), A (0005) 1 (1, 1, 2, 2), B (0056) 1 (1, 1, 1, 2) and C (0053) 1 in every size — 9 balls in XS, 10 in S and M, 12 in L and 13 in XL. The pattern gives one set of amounts for both sleeve lengths.
Anything to watch for?
The charts start at different stitches depending on the size, and some sizes share a start point: chart 1 has two start points for the body (S and L; XS, M and XL) and its own for the sleeves, and chart 2 has four (S; L; M and XL; XS). In sizes S and XL the front is 2 stitches narrower than the back at the yoke join; the totals are right. The needle list has no 6 mm double-pointed needles, but each sleeve changes to 6 mm straight after the cuff and has only 40 to 48 stitches after the first round — about 31 to 37 cm round (our calculation), too few for a 40 cm circular — so you will need them (our reading). The pattern calls a circular needle a “twin pin”.
Is everything in the photo part of the pattern?
Only the man’s white sweater. The black polo-neck top under it and his dark jeans are not; the sweater itself has a folded rib neckband. The woman wears Lopi 12 no. 2 by the same designer — a long black cardigan with a beret, a different pattern — and grey tights.
How do I get the pattern?
The PDF is emailed to you right after purchase. Nothing is posted. It is in English and has 4 pages: the cover photo, a page with the materials, sizes, all the instructions, the band chart and the key, a page with the yoke chart, and Ístex’s back cover.
