The tall black polo collar at her neck, her grey tights and the man’s white yoke sweater (Lopi 12 no. 22, a different pattern) are not part of this pattern

Good to know

Lopi 12 No. 2 — your questions, answered

Can I still buy the colours in the photo?
Yes. All three are still made by Ístex: 0059, 0051 and 0057, all Álafosslopi. The leaflet prints only the numbers; our shop calls them black, white and grey heather.
Is the beret part of the pattern?
Yes — it is on page 3: one size, in black (0059), from 1 ball, on 6 mm double-pointed needles and a 6 mm circular needle, 50 cm. It is cast on with 56 stitches, starts with 2 rounds of moss stitch, is increased to 98 stitches and knitted to 15 cm, then the crown is decreased at seven points down to 14 stitches and then to 7, knitted 3 rounds more and drawn together. No head measurement is given.
Which size should I knit?
Four sizes — XS, S, M and L — with a chest of 101, 108, 114 and 120 cm, a length of 67, 69, 71 and 73 cm to the centre front neck, and sleeves of 41, 43, 43 and 45 cm to the underarm. The body is knitted 43 (44, 45, 46) cm from the cast-on edge to the underarm. The body’s 125 (133, 141, 149) stitches, leaving out the 2 purl stitches at the cut, come to 96 to 115 cm at the pattern’s gauge before the front bands are added (our check), so the chest is the finished cardigan’s width — choose by the width you want it to be.
How much yarn do I need?
Álafosslopi in 100 g balls. The cardigan: black (0059) 7 (8, 8, 9), white (0051) 2 and grey heather (0057) 1 in every size — 10 (11, 11, 12) balls. The beret takes 1 more ball of black.
Is the front cut open?
Yes. A purl stitch runs up each side of the centre front; you sew two rows of machine stitching in the centre of each column of purl stitches and cut between them, so you need a sewing machine. The pattern also says the body, sleeves and yoke can be knitted back and forth instead: knit the first and last stitch of every row for a firm edge, and read the chart right to left on right-side rows and left to right on wrong-side rows.
Is anything unclear in the pattern?
A few small things. It says “See illustration on page 2”, but there is no illustration in the PDF; the text describes every step without it. The cardigan’s needle list has no 6 mm double-pointed needles, but each sleeve changes to 6 mm with only 42 (44, 44, 48) stitches — about 32 to 37 cm round (our calculation), too few for a 40 cm circular — so use the beret’s 6 mm double-pointed needles there too (our reading). The neckband count, 75 (75, 77, 77), works only if the 2 purl stitches at the cut are left out: 77 (80, 83, 89) less 2, less 20 (23, 24, 30), plus the 10 + 10 band stitches (our calculation). In the beret, “Rnd 4: K Rnd 5: *Inc 1 st, K6*” is two rounds on one line: knit round 4, increase in round 5. And the pattern calls a circular needle a “twin pin”.
Is everything in the photo part of the pattern?
The cardigan and the beret are. The tall black polo collar at her neck and her grey tights are not, and the man’s white sweater is Lopi 12 no. 22, a different pattern.
How do I get the pattern?
The PDF is emailed to you right after purchase. Nothing is posted. It is in English and has 4 pages: the cover photo, a page with the materials, sizes, gauge and all the cardigan instructions, a page with the yoke chart, the colour key and the beret, and Ístex’s back cover.
