His blue jeans are not part of the pattern; the red cardigan at the left edge is Lopi 12 no. 17, a different pattern, and the black trousers below it are not part of either

Good to know

Lopi 12 No. 19 & 20 — your questions, answered

What is in the leaflet?
One sweater pattern printed in two colour versions. No. 19 is navy (0118) with white (0051), light denim heather (0008) and denim heather (0010); No. 20 is black heather (0005) with light ash heather (0054), ash heather (0056) and dark grey heather (0058). The stitches, charts, sizes and amounts are the same; the materials list and the chart key give a column for each number. The cover photo is marked 12-19 and the back-cover photo 12-20.
Can I still buy the colours in the photos?
Yes. All eight are still made by Ístex, all Álafosslopi. The leaflet prints only the numbers; the names here are the ones our shop uses. Our shop calls 0054 light ash heather and 0056 ash heather — two different greys — so go by the numbers.
Which size should I knit?
Five sizes, XS to XL, with a chest of 100, 104, 112, 119 and 123 cm all the way round — the body’s stitches at the pattern’s gauge, to within 1 cm (our check). The length is 62 to 72 cm to the centre front neck, and the body is knitted 38 to 44 cm from the hem to the underarm. Sleeves are 41 to 45 cm for women and 46 to 50 cm for men. Compare with a sweater that fits well before you choose.
How much yarn do I need?
Álafosslopi in 100 g balls, the same for both versions: the main colour (M) 6 (6, 7, 7, 8) and one ball each of A, B and C — 9 (9, 10, 10, 11) balls. The pattern gives one amount for both sleeve lengths.
How is the yoke knitted?
In the round from one chart of 43 rounds. The repeat is 5 stitches and narrows to 4, 3 and 2 as one knit-2-together in each repeat is worked on rounds 18, 30 and 39, taking the yoke from 200 (210, 220, 230, 240) stitches to 80 (84, 88, 92, 96). No round uses more than two colours (our reading of the chart). Sizes XS to L leave out marked rounds — XS rounds 1, 17, 23, 28, 34, 41 and 42; S rounds 1, 17, 28, 34 and 42; M rounds 1, 34 and 42; L rounds 34 and 42; XL knits every round.
Is there a kit?
Two, one for each version, with the yarn for the largest size (XL). Our Freyr kit is No. 19, navy (0118 ×8, 0051 ×1, 0008 ×1, 0010 ×1), and our Logi kit is No. 20, black heather (0005 ×8, 0054 ×1, 0056 ×1, 0058 ×1). Freyr and Logi are our shop’s names, not printed in the pattern; our separate Logi pattern, from Lopi 41, is a different, children’s design.
Is anything unclear in the pattern?
A few small things. On the sleeves the pattern itself says “Sizes L and XL only: Patt from Chart 1 does not work out” — their 48 stitches do not divide by the 5-stitch repeat. At the yoke join the body puts 9 and 9 (9 and 10, 10 and 11, 13 and 12, 12 and 12) stitches on holders at the two underarms, and each sleeve puts 10 (10, 11, 12, 12); so in sizes XS to L the two sides of a graft can differ by one stitch (our count — the yoke total is right). The needle list has no 6 mm double-pointed needles, but each sleeve changes to 6 mm with only 40 (45, 45, 48, 48) stitches — about 31 to 37 cm round (our calculation), too few for a 40 cm circular — so you will need them (our reading). The list leaves out a tapestry needle, and the pattern calls a circular needle a “twin pin”.
Is everything in the photos part of the pattern?
The sweaters are. The blue jeans with No. 19 and the cream trousers with No. 20 are not. The red cardigan beside No. 19 is Lopi 12 no. 17, a different pattern, and the black trousers below it are not part of either. The woman beside No. 20 wears Lopi 12 no. 8, also a different pattern, with a white headband, polo neck, trousers and glove that are not part of either.
How do I get the pattern?
The PDF is emailed to you right after purchase. Nothing is posted. It is in English and has 4 pages: the cover photo of No. 19; a page with a small photo of No. 20, the sizes, the materials for both versions, gauge, all the instructions, the border chart and the colour key; a page with the yoke chart; and a back cover with a photo of No. 20.
