Good to know

Leggur — your questions, answered

Can I still buy the colours in the photos?
Four of the six are still made by Ístex: black (0059), celery green (9421) and stone blue (9418) for the rose band, and bottle green (1405) for Stripe. Hazel (1401), the main colour of Roses, and orange (1410), the top rib of Stripe, are no longer made. Our rose band kit uses 0867 chocolate heather for hazel — a little darker and less red than the warm brown in the photo — and our bottle green kit uses 1704 apricot for the orange, a bright orange with a little more yellow in it. Our shop calls 9421, 9418 and 1405 celery green heather, stone blue heather and bottle green heather.
Which size should I knit?
Two sizes, S/M and L/XL — 56 (60) stitches at the top and 44 (48) at the ankle. The pattern prints no circumferences; by the gauge that is about 31 (33) cm round the top of the leg and 24 (27) cm round the ankle (our calculation). You knit 32 (34) cm from the cast-on edge before the instep shaping, “or as long as needed”, and the whole leg warmer comes to about 38 (40) cm (our calculation).
How much yarn do I need?
Léttlopi in 50 g balls; the amounts are for a pair. Roses: hazel (1401) 3, black (0059) 1, celery green (9421) 1 and stone blue (9418) 1 — 6 balls in either size. Stripe: orange (1410) 1 and bottle green (1405) 2 (3) — 3 balls for S/M, 4 for L/XL.
How does the rose band fit size L/XL?
60 stitches is not a multiple of the 8-stitch repeat, so the chart adds a 4-stitch panel for L/XL — two small blue crosses with green dots above and below, on black — worked once, at the back of the leg where the round begins. The chart marks where to start (“Beg (L/XL)”) in the middle of that panel; the text doesn’t explain it (our reading).
Are there slips in the pattern?
A few. “Rep dec every 6th rnd 6 times” means six decrease rounds in all, counting the first — that is what gives 44 (48) stitches. “Rep from *to* ones. Rep inc ones more” means once, and once more: three increase rounds in all, giving 50 (54) stitches. And the pattern doesn’t say which colour to use from the decreases down to the lower rib; in the photos it is the main colour — hazel for Roses, bottle green for Stripe.
Is everything in the photos part of the pattern?
Only the leg warmers. On the steps (Stripe), the long black knit, the earrings and the high-heeled ankle boots are not; in the close-up (Roses), the brown sweater, the dark trousers and the hiking boots are not.
How do I get the pattern?
The PDF is emailed to you right after purchase. Nothing is posted. It is in English and has 4 pages: the cover photo (the Roses version), one page with the materials for both versions, the sizes, gauge, all the instructions, the rose chart and its key and a small photo of the Stripe version, a blank page and Ístex’s back cover.
