Kapp — zeal, as in a race. Guðrún Ragna Sigurjónsdóttir’s raglan sweater for children from Ístex’s Lopi 31 is knitted in Léttlopi: murky, with every edge in rough sea “basket weave”, a texture of crossed stitches. The front and back hems are knitted as separate borders and joined so the front overlaps the back, which leaves a slit at each side, and the neck opens in a slit at the front, edged in basket weave. One colour version, in sizes 4 to 12 years.

Stitch holders for the underarm stitches, stitch markers, and a tapestry needle for sewing down the neck edge and grafting the underarms — the pattern uses them but does not list them.
How it is knitted
The front and back hems are knitted separately, back and forth, as borders: 67 (71, 75, 77, 81) stitches cast on in rough sea, one knit row and six rows of basket weave; then murky begins, with the 5 stitches at each edge kept in rough-sea basket weave. The two borders are joined into one round with the front laid over the back, its 5 edge stitches knitted together with the back’s, so the front overlaps the back at both sides and leaves a slit — 126 (134, 142, 146, 154) stitches. The body is murky stocking stitch in the round to 26 (28, 30, 33, 36) cm. Each sleeve starts with a rough-sea basket-weave border of 33 (33, 35, 35, 37) stitches, knitted back and forth on double-pointed needles; it is then joined into a round in murky, increased by 2 (3, 3, 3, 3) stitches on the first round and then at the underarm to 49 (50, 52, 54, 56) stitches. Body and sleeves are joined, with 8 (8, 10, 10, 12) stitches on holders at each underarm — 192 (202, 206, 214, 218) stitches — and the raglan is decreased at four markers on every other round. After 3 (4, 5, 5, 6) decrease rounds the yoke is opened at the middle of the front and knitted back and forth, with 5 stitches of rough-sea basket weave at each side of the opening (on one side 5 new stitches, cast on and later sewn down behind), down to 69 (71, 75, 83, 87) stitches. The neckband is 6 rows of rough-sea basket weave, knitted back and forth, and the underarms are grafted.
