Two people in Húm by a football goal, both in the pattern’s own colours — the woman in the blue version, a blend of winter blue, navy and arctic blue with a darker navy band at the hem, the man in the grey version, a dark tweedy blend of dark grey, black heather and grey heather. Her white patterned hat, the T-shirts and the jeans are not part of the pattern

Why you'll love it

  • Blended colourThree strands held together make one heathered mix; near the hem one strand becomes a second strand of the darkest colour for a darker band.
  • Top downThe back and fronts start at the shoulders, and the sleeves are picked up round the armholes and knitted down to the cuff.
  • V-neckShaped as the fronts are knitted and edged with a round of single crochet.
  • Two-strand sleevesFiner than the body, and the first 10 cm from the armhole use a different pair of colours from the rest.
  • Two colourwaysBlue — winter blue, navy and arctic blue — or grey: dark grey, black heather and grey heather. The same amounts in both.

Good to know

Húm — your questions, answered

Can I still buy the colours in the photo?
Yes, all six are still made by Ístex. Blue sweater: winter blue (1432), navy (0118) and arctic blue (1431). Grey sweater: dark grey (9103), black heather (0005) and grey heather (9102). Our shop adds “heather” to some of the names and calls 9102 simply grey, so go by the colour numbers.
Which size should I knit?
Five sizes — S, M, L, XL and XXL — with a chest of 92, 100, 107, 114 and 121 cm, a length of 64, 66, 68, 70 and 72 cm, and sleeves of 52 or 53 cm to the underarm. The chest matches the body’s stitch count at the pattern’s gauge (our check), so choose by the width you want the sweater to be. The armholes are straight, with the sleeves picked up round them. If you want the body wider, the pattern says to skip the side decreases.
How much yarn do I need?
Plötulopi in plates of about 100 g. Both versions take the same: A 2 (2, 3, 3, 3), B 2 (2, 3, 3, 3) and C 1 (1, 2, 2, 2) plates — 5 plates in S and M, 8 in L, XL and XXL.
How do the strands work?
The pattern says to begin by winding the strands softly together. The body is knitted with three strands, A+B+C, on 7 mm needles — 11 stitches to 10 cm. At 53 (54, 55, 57, 58) cm C is swapped for a second strand of B, the darkest colour, for the darker band at the hem. The sleeves are knitted with two strands on 5.5 mm — 14 stitches to 10 cm: the first 10 cm in A+C for blue or B+C for grey, then A+B to the cuff. The single crochet round the neck is in A+B.
Is anything unclear in the pattern?
Yes, the sleeve stitch count. The sleeves are picked up with 62 (64, 68, 70, 72) stitches and decreased 2 stitches 11 (11, 10, 10, 10) times, which leaves 40 (42, 48, 50, 52) stitches (our calculation), but the pattern prints “36 (38) 38 (40) 42 sts” and does not say which is right. The decrease spacing is missing a bracket — read it as every 8th (8th, 9th, 9th, 9th) round — and the V-neck increases say “every 2nd rnd” although the fronts are knitted in rows. The materials list also leaves out the waste yarn, the elastic thread and the stitch markers.
Is everything in the photo part of the pattern?
The two sweaters are. Her white patterned hat, the T-shirts under the V-necks and the jeans are not.
How do I get the pattern?
The PDF is emailed to you right after purchase. Nothing is posted. It is in English and has 4 pages: the cover photo, one page with the materials for both versions, the sizes, gauge and all the instructions, a blank page and Ístex’s back cover.
