Why you'll love it

  • Roses over the shouldersBig roses, then bands of smaller flowers, on black — from one 61-round chart with the decreases drawn in.
  • Shoulder to wristEach side and its sleeve is one piece, knitted in the round from a cast-on of 184 to 208 stitches down to the wrist.
  • Joined at the backA small back piece, knitted from the waist up to the neck, is sewn in between the two sides.
  • Two colourwaysBlue roses in stone blue, murky, light beige, black heather and ash heather — or red roses in sage green, garnet red, rust heather, navy blue and rose heather.
  • Sleeves to suitKnit the sleeve 36 to 42 cm from the first decrease, or as long as you like — the pattern says so itself.

Good to know

Heartwarmer — your questions, answered

Can I still buy the colours in the photos?
For the blue roses, yes: black (0059), stone blue (9418), murky (1420), light beige (0086), black heather (0005) and ash heather (0056) are all still made by Ístex. For the red roses, four of the six are still made — black, garnet red (1409), rust heather (9427) and navy blue (9420). Sage green (9422) and rose heather (9428) are no longer made. Our red roses kit uses 9421 celery green heather in place of sage green and 1412 pink heather in place of rose heather. Our shop calls 9418 and 0086 stone blue heather and light beige heather, so go by the colour numbers.
Which size should I knit?
Four sizes — S, M, L and XL — 51, 53, 55 and 57 cm long from the shoulder, and 67, 69, 72 and 75 cm from the middle of the back to the wrist. The pattern gives no chest measurement: it is a shrug, closed at the front with one button.
How much yarn do I need?
Léttlopi in 50 g balls, the same for both colourways: black (A) 5 (6, 6, 6) balls and one ball each of the five pattern colours, B to F — 10 balls in S, 11 in M, L and XL.
How do I knit the red roses from the chart?
The chart is drawn in the blue colours, and the key has two columns. A is black in both; B is stone blue or sage green, C murky or garnet red, D light beige or rust heather, E black heather or navy blue, and F ash heather or rose heather.
How is it put together?
Lay the two sides flat with the start of the rounds at the lower edge, mark the sides and the middle of the back, mark the middle of the back piece, and sew the back piece in with black so the middle marks meet. A photo in the pattern shows the finished shrug laid flat from the back, with the neckline, the sides and the middle of the back marked. A small button and a loop close the front.
Is anything unclear in the pattern?
Very little — the stitch counts all add up (our check). The pattern does not say how to make the button loop, and it uses stitch markers for the finishing without listing them.
How do I get the pattern?
The PDF is emailed to you right after purchase. Nothing is posted. It is in English and has 4 pages: the cover photo; a page with a photo of the blue roses, the materials for both colourways, the sizes and all the instructions, and a photo of the finished shrug laid flat; a page with the chart, the key and a photo of the red roses; and a back cover with another photo of the red roses.
