4.5 mm (US 7) and 6 mm (US 10) double-pointed needles for the lower sleeves and the cuffs
You will also need
Stitch holders (or waste yarn) for the underarm and front-neck stitches, which the instructions use but the list leaves out, and bobbins for the intarsia if you like to use them.
How it is knitted
The back and the front are knitted flat from the hem up in black heather: 57 (61, 65, 69) stitches, 3 cm of K1, P1 rib on 4.5 mm, then stocking stitch on 6 mm. The ram’s head on the back is knitted in white, in intarsia, from the back chart. At 39 (40, 42, 44) cm, 3 stitches at each side go on a holder for the underarm. The back is knitted straight to 58 (60, 63, 66) cm and cast off. On the front, a 9-row white stripe begins 0 (2, 2, 4) rows above the underarm, and the neck is shaped from 50 (52, 54, 57) cm. The shoulders are joined — the pattern says graft — and the sides are joined from the right side. The sleeves are picked up round the armholes, 52 (54, 56, 58) stitches including the underarm stitches, knitted down in the round on 6 mm, decreased at the underarm and finished with 3 cm of K1, P1 rib on 4.5 mm double-pointed needles. The neckband is 54 (58, 60, 60) stitches picked up round the neck, 4 cm of K1, P1 rib, cast off in rib.
