Why you'll love it

  • The washing-up brothersPottasleikir took the unwashed pots and licked out what was left; Askasleikir did the same to the eating bowls. They arrive one after the other, 16 and 17 December.
  • A bowl from the old farmhouseThe askur in Askasleikir's hands is the lidded wooden bowl Icelanders once ate from, and his name means the one who licks them.
  • The pink oneSix of the balls are blue, green or red. This is the only one in raspberry pink, so it stands out on a dark green tree.
  • A box with a liningThe ball comes in a red box lined inside, and it goes back in there after Christmas.
  • Duties settled at checkoutFor the US and Canada, the total you pay at checkout is the whole price; nothing more is collected at the door.

Questions people ask before they buy

Pot Licker or Pot Scraper?
The same lad, the fifth, on 16 December. The National Museum of Iceland calls him Pottaskefill, Pot Scraper, and adds that he is sometimes called Pot Licker. Sólarfilma, the publisher of this ball, uses Pottasleikir, and our title follows it.
What is the bowl Askasleikir is holding?
An askur: the lidded wooden bowl Icelanders once ate their meals from. The museum says people kept them under the bed or on the floor, and that Askasleikir hid under the bed and licked the inside clean whenever someone set one down.
How many balls are there in the series?
Seven. The thirteen lads come two to a ball in the order they arrive, and the last ball pairs Kertasníkir with his mother Grýla. All seven are the same size.
What happens to it after Christmas?
It goes back in the red box it came in. The box has a lining, so the ball is protected while it waits for next year.
Does it ship free?
A single ball does not. Orders over $149 to the US, Canada and Europe do, and four balls together pass that. Otherwise you see the shipping cost at checkout before you pay.
