Gáttaþefur and Ketkrókur are the eleventh and twelfth Icelandic Yule Lads, arriving on 22 and 23 December. Gáttaþefur, with his huge nose, followed the smell of the Christmas baking; Ketkrókur fished for smoked lamb down the chimney with a hooked stick.
On this ball one holds an iced cake under his nose and the other holds up a joint of meat, against a bright red sky with black stars. Like the other six balls in the series, it is painted by hand from the inside after drawings by Brian Pilkington, measures about 8 cm (3.1 in) and comes in a lined red box, ready to hang from its gold cord.
