Why you'll love it

  • The one who wanted noise, not foodHurðaskellir's fun was slamming doors so that nobody could get any rest. Among so many hungry brothers, he is the noisy one.
  • Skyr, the real thingSkyrgámur's weakness is skyr, the thick Icelandic dairy food similar to yoghurt. He ate it straight from the tub in the pantry.
  • A key held highThe painter gave Hurðaskellir a big black key and a raised finger, and Skyrgámur a heaped spoonful on the way to his mouth.
  • Loved for the stories tooA customer wrote that they love the Christmas balls and the stories of the lads behind them.
  • Boxed and ready to giveThe ball travels and is stored in a red box with a lining.

Questions people ask before they buy

What did Hurðaskellir do?
He made noise. The National Museum of Iceland says he went about slamming doors so that people could hardly get any rest, and that he still slams them when he visits the museum each December. The publisher's own notes add that food interests him less than it does his brothers.
What is skyr?
A thick Icelandic dairy food, similar to yoghurt. According to the museum, Skyrgámur liked it so much that he sneaked into the pantry and ate the skyr straight out of the tub.
Skyr Glutton or Skyr Gobbler?
You will see both. Sólarfilma, the publisher of the ball, and our title say Skyr Glutton; the National Museum of Iceland translates Skyrgámur as Skyr Gobbler.
What is the ball made of?
Sólarfilma does not state the material, and we do not want to guess. It says the pictures are painted by hand from the inside. Treat it as fragile.
Can I buy just this one?
Yes, every ball is sold singly, and also as a set of seven. One ball pays shipping, shown at checkout before you pay; orders over $149 ship free to the US, Canada and Europe.
