Good to know

Gná — your questions, answered

Can I still buy the colours in the photos?
Only murky (1420), the grey-brown band of the orange version, is still made. Orange (1410), rose heather (9428) and berry heather (9429) are no longer made by Ístex. Our orange kit uses 1704 apricot in place of orange — a deeper, browner orange than the bright one in the photo. Our fuchsia kit is the burgundy version in 1705 royal fuchsia and 1414 violet heather — brighter and more magenta than the dusty plum in the photos, with a bluer, dark purple band. You can also knit it in any two Léttlopi colours; the amounts stay the same.
Which size should I knit?
Three sizes — S, M and L — with a chest of 91, 96 and 100 cm, 40, 42 and 43 cm from hem to underarm, and sleeves of 47, 48 and 48 cm to the underarm. There is no XL. The pattern gives no total length; the raglan yoke adds roughly 18 to 20 cm above the underarm before the neck rib (our calculation).
How much yarn do I need?
Léttlopi in 50 g balls. Both versions take 7 (7, 8) balls of colour A and 2 balls of colour B — 9 balls in S and M, 10 in L. Orange version: A orange (1410), B murky (1420). Burgundy version: A rose heather (9428), B berry heather (9429).
How is the cable knitted?
From an 8-round chart over 22 stitches: 2 purl stitches, an 18-stitch braid and 2 purl stitches. In round 3, three cables cross over the 18 stitches with the stitches held behind; in round 7, two cables cross over the middle 12 with the stitches held in front — all 3 over 3. You need a cable needle; it is not in the pattern’s materials list. The cable stops after 18 (18, 20) of the 20 (20, 22) raglan decreases, so the last 2 decrease rounds before the neck are plain.
Is anything unclear in the pattern?
A few small things. The rib panel at the centre back is 1 stitch off centre — in S there are 26 stitches before it and 27 after; that is how it is written (our reading). The sleeve band starts at 32 (33, 34) cm and is knitted “same length as on body”, which is 10 cm. In M and L that puts the sleeve band 1 cm (M) or 2 cm (L) higher than the body band where they meet at the underarm (our calculation); to line them up, start the sleeve band at 32 cm in every size (our suggestion). The 3½ mm needles are printed as US 3; they are US 4. And the materials list leaves out the cable needle, stitch markers, stitch holders and a tapestry needle.
How do I get the pattern?
The PDF is emailed to you right after purchase. Nothing is posted. It is in English and has 4 pages: the cover photo, one full page with the materials, sizes, instructions, cable chart and a photo of the back rib, a blank page and Ístex’s back cover.
