Gjöf is a free Icelandic sweater pattern by Védís Jónsdóttir, designed for Heimilisiðnaðarfélag Íslands (the Icelandic Handicraft Association) for Nordic Craft Week. Gjöf means gift. The leaflet gives the same round-yoke lopapeysa in two versions: a light one in white with a light grey and dark grey yoke, and a dark one in black with fjord blue, celery green, golden and rust.
About this Icelandic sweater pattern
- Seven sizes, XS to 3XL: chest 86, 93, 100, 106, 113, 120 and 126 cm all the way round.
- Women’s and men’s lengths in every size. Body to the underarm: women’s 36 to 42 cm, men’s 39 to 45 cm. Sleeves: women’s 43 to 49 cm, men’s 47 to 53 cm.
- Léttlopi, 50 g balls: 7 to 11 balls of the main colour for the women’s lengths, 8 to 12 for the men’s.
- Gauge: 18 stitches and 24 rounds to 10 cm on 4.5 mm needles, with 3.5 mm needles for the rib.
Body and sleeves are knitted in the round, then joined for the yoke. A small patterned band sits above the 3 cm rib at the hem and cuffs. The neckband is 7 cm of knit 1, purl 1 rib; the pattern gives folding it in half to the inside as an option.
