Good to know

Einir — your questions, answered

Can I still buy the colours in the photo?
Yes. Highland green (1230), black sheep (0052) and light beige (0086) are all still made by Ístex. The leaflet shortens 1230 to “highl. green”, and our shop calls 0052 black sheep heather and 0086 light beige heather, so go by the colour numbers.
Which size should I knit?
Six sizes — XS, S, M, L, XL and XXL — with a chest of 97, 102, 106, 111, 115 and 120 cm all the way round, 45, 47, 49, 50, 51 and 51 cm from the hem to the underarm, and sleeves of 50, 52, 53, 54, 55 and 55 cm to the underarm.
How much yarn do I need?
Álafosslopi in 100 g balls: highland green (A) 5 (6, 6, 6, 7, 7), black sheep (B) 1 in every size and light beige (C) 2 (3, 3, 3, 3, 4) — 8 (10, 10, 10, 11, 12) balls.
Where does each colour go?
Highland green is the body, the sleeves, the ribbing and the small dots on the yoke. Black sheep is used only in the band knitted round the body and the top of the sleeves before the yoke. Light beige is in that band too, and it is the whole yoke background, the raglan lines and the collar.
How are the short rows worked?
After the raglan decreases, a marker goes in the centre front stitch. You knit to 7 (8, 8, 9, 10, 10) stitches before it, wrap the next stitch and turn, then work to the same point on the other side, wrap and turn — then again to 16 (17, 17, 18, 19, 19) and to 18 (19, 19, 20, 21, 21) stitches from the marker on each side, with the raglan decreases going on every other row, and finish with a round over all the stitches. So the back of the neck is higher than the front. To wrap a stitch: yarn to the front, slip the next stitch, yarn to the back, slip the stitch back; when you knit across later, knit each wrap together with its stitch.
Is anything unclear in the pattern?
A few small things. Each body underarm puts 8 (9, 10, 9, 10, 9) stitches on a holder but each sleeve 9, so in XS, M and XL the two sides differ by a stitch when you graft them (our reading). The needle list has no 6 mm double-pointed needles for the sleeves (see Needles), and it leaves out stitch holders, markers and a tapestry needle. The credit “Org pattern” means the original pattern.
Is everything in the photo part of the pattern?
The sweater is. The dark jeans are not.
How do I get the pattern?
The PDF is emailed to you right after purchase. Nothing is posted. It is in English and has 4 pages: the cover photo; a page with a small photo, the sizes, materials, gauge, notes on the raglan shaping and the short rows, the body, the sleeves, the start of the yoke, the chart and the colour key; a page with the rest of the yoke and the short rows, the collar and the finishing; and Ístex’s back cover.
