Blómey — a girl’s name with blóm, flower, in it. A zip-up cardigan for children from Ístex’s Lopi 34, knitted in Álafosslopi in the round from the bottom up and cut open at the front. The body and sleeves are oxblood red with moss-stitch edges; the round yoke has a black ground with two rows of flowers shaded from teal through apple green, golden heather and burnt orange to dark magenta, and a black folded collar. The original design is by Guðrún Gunnarsdóttir; Védís Jónsdóttir redesigned it for Lopi 34. Three sizes, 6–8 to 12–14 years; all seven colours are still made by Ístex.

A zipper for the front (in the pattern’s list, no length given), stitch holders for the underarm stitches, a sewing machine to secure the steek, thread in a matching colour for sewing in the zipper, and a tapestry needle.
How it is knitted
The body is cast on in oxblood red on the 5 mm circular and knitted back and forth in moss stitch for 5 (7, 7) rows; then, on 6 mm, two purled stitches are cast on for the steek and the body is joined and knitted in the round in stocking stitch to 27 (32, 37) cm. The sleeves start with 5 (7, 7) rounds of moss stitch on 5 mm double-pointed needles and are increased at the underarm. Body and sleeves are joined for the round yoke, 145 (157, 169) stitches, and the 34-round chart — two rounds of oxblood and black, then two rows of flowers on black, with decreases in five rounds — takes it to 51 (55, 59); the smaller sizes leave out marked rounds. The two steek stitches are bound off and the collar is knitted back and forth in black on 5 mm: 6 rows of moss stitch, a purl row and 6 rows of stocking stitch, folded to the inside and slip-stitched down. The steek is machine-sewn twice through each purl column and cut between them, the zipper is sewn in under the front edges, and the underarms are grafted.
