Good to know

Blámi — your questions, answered

Can I still buy the colour in the photo?
Yes. Light indigo (9958) Álafosslopi is still made by Ístex.
Which size should I knit?
Three sizes — S/M, L and XL/XXL — with a chest of 110, 115 and 120 cm, and 100, 103 and 105 cm long from the shoulder. The chest matches the body’s cast-on at the pattern’s gauge (our check), so it is the measurement all the way round. The sleeves grow out of the body, so the pattern gives no sleeve length; it measures from wrist to wrist instead: 143, 148 and 153 cm.
How much yarn do I need?
Álafosslopi in 100 g balls: 11 balls of light indigo for S/M and L, 12 for XL/XXL.
Do I have to cut my knitting?
Yes. The first and last stitch of every round are purled, so two purled columns run up the centre front. Each is machine-sewn twice with small straight stitches, and the knitting is cut between them. The front borders are backstitched on afterwards, with a ribbon sewn inside them to hide the cut edge.
How are the ribs put on?
Every rib is knitted separately in K2, P2 and bound off loosely: the two sleeve ribs in the round, 30 (31, 32) cm long; the hem rib back and forth, 20 cm; the collar, 12 cm; and the front borders, 6 cm. The body is turned purl side out, and the ribs are backstitched on with the needle about 1 cm below the bound-off edge, which leaves a raised edge above the stitching.
What else do I need?
8–9 large press studs and about 2 m of ribbon, both in the pattern’s list, and a sewing machine for the centre front.
Is anything unclear in the pattern?
Small things. The front borders are written as one cast-on of 140 (144, 148) stitches without saying to make two; you need one for each front edge (our reading). And the materials list has a 6 mm 40 cm circular needle that the instructions never name.
How do I get the pattern?
The PDF is emailed to you right after purchase. Nothing is posted. It is in English and has 4 pages: the cover photo; a page with a small photo, the sizes, materials, gauge and all the instructions; a blank page; and Ístex’s back cover.
