Good to know

Vor (Lopi 33) — your questions, answered

Can I still buy the colours in the photo?
Yes. Léttlopi spring green (1406) and Einband black (0059) are both still made by Ístex. Our shop calls 1406 spring green heather.
Which size should I knit?
Four sizes — XS, S, M and L — with a chest of 84, 91, 99 and 105 cm all the way round, 43, 44, 45 and 46 cm from the hem to the underarm, and sleeves of 46, 47, 48 and 50 cm. The body is shaped: at the pattern’s gauge the hem is about 88 (95, 104, 109) cm round and the waist about 77 (84, 93, 98) cm (our calculation). The pattern gives no total length.
How much yarn do I need?
Léttlopi in 50 g balls: spring green (A) 8 (8, 9, 9). Einband in 50 g balls: black (B) 1 in every size — it is only used for the crocheted edging.
How is the yoke knitted?
From one 52-round chart, repeated round the yoke (16 stitches to a repeat): knit and purl stitches, yarn-overs that make the eyelets, and double decreases (slip 1, knit 2 together, pass the slipped stitch over) and purl-2-togethers that take the yoke from 227 (243, 259, 275) stitches to 60 (64, 68, 72). It is all in spring green — the pattern comes from the stitches, not from colour.
Do I have to cut my knitting?
Yes. One purl stitch at each side of the centre front runs up the body and the yoke, and the collar is knitted in the round too. Sew twice by machine with small straight stitches through each chain of purl stitches and cut between the sewn rows. Then crochet 3 rows of single crochet in spring green along each front, and the black crab-stitch edging all round.
Is anything unclear in the pattern?
A few small things. The materials list asks for a 3 mm crochet hook, the finishing for 3½ mm. Chart round 19 is marked to be skipped in all four sizes, so as printed it is never knitted. Chart round 46 takes out one stitch fewer than the other decrease rounds; the printed stitch counts allow for it. The text says where the buttonholes go — the first at the start of the collar, the last about 7 cm above the cast-on edge — but not in which crochet row; by our reading they go in the single-crochet band. The list leaves out stitch markers, stitch holders, a tapestry needle and a sewing machine.
Is everything in the photo part of the pattern?
The cardigan is; it is shown with 7 pairs of buttons, which are not included. The blue jeans are not part of the pattern.
How do I get the pattern?
The PDF is emailed to you right after purchase. Nothing is posted. It is in English and has 4 pages: the cover photo; a page with a small photo, the sizes, the materials, gauge, notes, the body, the sleeves, the yoke, the collar, the finishing and a close-up photo of the yoke; a page with the yoke chart and its key; and Ístex’s back cover.
