- Lopi 24, no. 4 — Monika Trimmel
- Sizes 36–42 · chest 98–104 cm
Monika Trimmel’s plain turtleneck pullover from Ístex’s Lopi 24 is knitted in Léttlopi in the round, all on 4½ mm needles, with no colour pattern. The hem and cuffs are cast on with twice the stitches of the body and sleeves and knitted in knit 3, purl 3 rib that closes up in steps — knit 3, purl 2, then knit 3, purl 1, 18 rounds at a time — before the stocking stitch begins; the tall turtle neck widens the other way, from knit 2, purl 2 to knit 3, purl 3. One set of instructions gives two lengths: a short sweater, 59 to 65 cm to the shoulder, printed in black, and a long one, 84 to 90 cm, in lagoon. Sizes 36 to 42. Both colours are still made.

Needles
4½ mm (US 7) circular needles, 40 and 80 cm — for the body, the start of the sleeves and the yoke; everything, the rib included, is knitted on 4½ mm
4½ mm (US 7) double-pointed needles — for the sleeves and the yoke and turtle neck when the stitches get too few for the circular (the pattern says “if necessary”)
You will also need
Markers, an extra needle or waste yarn for the underarm stitches, and a tapestry needle for grafting — the instructions use them, but the pattern’s list leaves them out.
How it is knitted
Knitted in the round from the bottom up, sleeves first, all on 4½ mm needles. Each sleeve is cast on with 90 (90, 96, 102) stitches on the circular needle and knitted in knit 3, purl 3 rib for 18 rounds; then the last stitch of each knit column is knitted together with the first purl stitch beside it, and knit 3, purl 2 goes on for 18 rounds; the same again gives knit 3, purl 1 for 18 rounds, and one more round closes the purl columns, leaving 45 (45, 48, 51) stitches. In stocking stitch the sleeve is increased “1 st every 5 rnds, at the beginning and the end of rnd” to 56 (57, 60, 64) stitches and 45 (46, 46, 47) cm, and 10 (10, 12, 12) stitches are bound off at the underarm. The body is cast on with 354 (360, 366, 372) stitches and given the same rib, leaving 177 (180, 183, 186), then knitted in stocking stitch to 30 (31, 32, 33) cm for the short sweater or 55 (56, 57, 58) cm for the long one, and 10 (10, 12, 12) stitches are bound off at each side. Body and sleeves are joined, 249 (254, 255, 266) stitches, and after 20 (22, 24, 26) plain rounds 12 stitches are decreased every 4th round — knit 2 together after 12 evenly spaced markers — to 84 (84, 88, 92). The turtle neck is knit 2, purl 2 for 18 rounds, knit 2, purl 3 for 8 rounds and knit 3, purl 3 for 18 rounds — a stitch is added to each purl column, then to each knit column — and cast off; it is 18 cm high. The underarm stitches are grafted.
