Védís Jónsdóttir’s Voff from Ístex’s Lopi 25 is a sweater for a dog, in Léttlopi on 4½ mm needles, with two short sleeves for the front legs and a round patterned yoke. The back is started flat, with small rib edges, and the belly stitches are cast on only after 8 to 12 cm, so at the back end it covers just the dog’s back (our reading); from there it is knitted in the round up to the neck. In the pattern’s colours the body is black sheep and the yoke white, with acorn motifs and black sheep zigzags. Three sizes, S, M and L, for a chest of 27, 33 or 36 cm. All three colours are still made.

How it is knitted
Knitted from the back end towards the neck. The body is cast on in A with 24 (30, 33) stitches and knitted back and forth: 3 rows of knit 1, purl 1 rib, then stocking stitch with purl 1, knit 1, purl 1 at each edge, to 8 (10, 12) cm. Then 24 (30, 33) stitches are cast on for the belly and the body is joined into a round — 3 rounds of knit 1, purl 1 rib over the new stitches — and knitted in stocking stitch to 14 (18, 22) cm from the first cast-on edge. The sleeves for the front legs are cast on in A with 16 (18, 18) stitches, knitted in the round in knit 1, purl 1 rib for 3 rounds, increased by 6 stitches evenly, to 22 (24, 24), and knitted to 5 (6, 7) cm. Body and sleeves are joined in A for the round yoke, 72 (84, 90) stitches, with 5 (6, 6) stitches under each leg left on holders, and the yoke chart, with three decrease rounds, takes it to 36 (42, 45) — sizes S and M leave out marked rounds, so the chart is 15 (16, 18) rounds. The neckband is knitted on 3½ mm: 1 round of stocking stitch and 2 rounds of knit 1, purl 1 rib in A, and 1 round of rib in B, then it is bound off loosely. Under each front leg, 5 (6, 6) stitches are picked up from the body and knitted for 5 (6, 6) rows in stocking stitch; this small gusset is grafted to the sleeve and its sides are sewn to the body.
