Why you'll love it

  • A light, patterned yokeThe yoke chart has a wavy lower edge, small crosses, arches and round dots in the two colours, with the four decrease rounds worked into the chart.
  • A collar that opensThe ribbed collar is knitted in the round for 3 cm and then back and forth for 3 cm more, so its top half is open at the front.
  • A matching borderA border of 7 rounds (6 in sizes XS and S) in the same two colours sits above the 5 cm rib at the hem and at both cuffs.
  • Six sizesXS to XXL, with a chest of 93 to 115 cm and sleeves of 48 to 53 cm to the underarm.

Good to know

Virki — your questions, answered

Can I still buy the colours in the photos?
Yes. All four are still made by Ístex: Álafosslopi sheep black (0052) and ecru heather (9972) for the black version, and indigo blue (9959) and ash heather (0054) for the blue. Our shop calls them black sheep heather, ecru heather, indigo and light ash heather, so go by the colour numbers.
Which size should I knit?
Six sizes, XS to XXL, with a chest of 93, 97, 101, 106, 110 and 115 cm all the way round; it matches the body’s stitch count at the pattern’s gauge to within 1 cm (our check). The body is 40 to 45 cm from the hem to the underarm and the sleeves 48 to 53 cm. Compare with a sweater that fits well before you choose.
How much yarn do I need?
Álafosslopi in 100 g balls, the same for both versions: A 6 (6, 7, 7, 7, 8) and B 2 in every size — 8 (8, 9, 9, 9, 10) balls in all. A is the main colour, the rib and the collar; B is the light colour of the yoke and the border.
How is the collar made?
After the yoke, on 4½ mm needles in A, the stitches are decreased evenly to 52 (54, 56, 58, 60, 62). You knit 3 cm of knit 1, purl 1 rib in the round, ending at the centre front, then turn and knit 3 cm more of rib back and forth, and cast off in rib. That leaves the top half of the collar open at the front, as in the photos.
Is anything unclear in the pattern?
Two small things, by our check. In sizes XS and XXL the sleeves put 9 underarm stitches on a holder, but the body puts 8 (XS) or 10 (XXL), so the stitches you graft together at the underarm do not match one for one; the pattern does not mention it. And on the sleeves the pattern itself says the border chart “does not fit in all sizes”. The materials list leaves out stitch holders and a tapestry needle.
Is everything in the photos part of the pattern?
The sweaters are. The jeans are not.
How do I get the pattern?
The PDF is emailed to you right after purchase. Nothing is posted. It is in English and has 4 pages: the cover photo of the black sweater; a page with a photo of the blue sweater, the sizes, materials, gauge, notes, the start of the instructions, the two charts and the colour key; a page with the rest of the instructions; and Ístex’s back cover.
