Good to know

Vetur — your questions, answered

Can I still buy the colours in the photos?
Yes. All four are still made by Ístex: Plötulopi black heather (0005) and white (0001), and ash grey (1026) and winter blue (1432). Our shop calls 1026 light ash heather and 1432 winter blue heather, so go by the colour numbers.
Which size should I knit?
Five sizes, S to XXL, with a chest of 91, 97, 102, 108 and 114 cm all the way round; it matches the body’s stitch count at the pattern’s gauge to within 1 cm (our check). The body is 42 to 46 cm from the hem to the underarm and the sleeves 49 to 53 cm. Compare with a sweater that fits well before you choose.
How much yarn do I need?
Plötulopi in plates of about 100 g, the same for both versions: A 4 (4, 4, 5, 5) and B 2 (2, 2, 3, 3) — 6 (6, 6, 8, 8) plates in all. Each colour is knitted with two strands wound together from the plates.
What are the “lice”?
Small motifs of the second colour, two rounds high, scattered over the plain body and sleeves — in the chart, little V shapes and short dashes, a row of them every 6 rounds. You knit 10 (10, 10, 11, 11) rows of them on the body and 12 (12, 12, 13, 13) on the sleeves, or go by the length. The pattern adds: “Work the ‘lice’ with dominant colour.”
Is anything unclear in the pattern?
Only small things. Beside the lice section the chart has begin and end marks for each size that the text does not explain; the text itself says how many lice rows to knit, or to go by the length. The materials list names markers that the instructions never use, and leaves out stitch holders and a tapestry needle. The stitch counts all add up (our check).
Is everything in the photos part of the pattern?
The sweaters are. The jeans are not.
How do I get the pattern?
The PDF is emailed to you right after purchase. Nothing is posted. It is in English and has 4 pages: the cover photo of the black and white sweater; a page with a small photo of the grey and blue sweater, the sizes, materials, gauge, notes, all the instructions and the body-and-sleeve chart; a page with the yoke chart and the colour key; and Ístex’s back cover.
